Who drives their trucks?

Post by willowbilly3 »

OK, how many of you actually drive a 67-72? Daily? Weekly? Ever?
Yeah, yeah, I know the price of gas, whatever, makes excuses for a reason TO drive, instead of reasons not to.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

I drive mine every time I am home. It's easy to afford it every 3 months or so. In 2002, I was driving my 67 custom cab(rolled now) to jobs in Ga., northern MS. and even drove it to California, 2300 miles one way from Florida, to a job. Drove its replacement, 68 Ranger, from the panhandle to Orlando to a job until I left to come over here. I bought my 67 from the Houston area while I was working there and drove it home to Florida. That's what these trucks are for. My 67 still runs and drives, it just needs a new cab due to the rollover.

I drive my 68 at least a couple times a week. With the gas I'm pretty much in the Falcon for now. I'm lucky enough to pick and choose which vehicle for whatever I'm doing.

I was driving my 72 pretty regular until about a month ago when I started the disc conversion and other improvements.

I plan to drive mine as soon as I get it registered and inspected.

The brakes wouldn't have passed inspection so I just finished that. Planning to rebuild the front end next as it's very loose. I'm kinda mad at myself for not just going ahead and dropping the front end when I had the front brakes apart. But just trying to figure all this out one step at a time.

Ditto, my '67 is daily driver. About 35 miles daily for work. With the price of gas...nope I don't make too many fun rides anymore. Been trying to get anything OVER 11 mpg lately. Learning to drive like an old man now!

The '69 is GROUNDED!!! Geez, that really hurts. Premium fuel is way out of sight. Might as well run the racing gas since it's not gone up yet. I have it for race car anyway? I get my fill about once a month with it. $20 doesn't go very far at all in it!

I love driving mine, and sometimes just drive around just to :D . You get some fun looks driving around in a old Good Humor Truck, and when you stop you get to talk about it. I usually tow my truck to events over 10 miles, due to after a long day standing in the sun, the air cond on my 99 Ford diesel feels soooo good, and it is almost as fun to drive.

When my engine work is finished, I will continue to drive my 67 at least twice a week or more, next spring I plan to hit the local car shows, (if it looks good enough).

Until I find something else, the 68 is my daily driver; at least until the transfer case finally goes out. With gas prices I have been doing everything I can to save gas. With manual brakes and steering I can shut it off at the top of every hill and coast. When I am just about the stop I slide it back into third and let the clutch back out and I am under power again. On the last tank I improved from 8 to 9.6, next tank I hope to get 11!

It's so flat around here I could just push mine around.
