Hey LUVMY69FORD250RANGER
You have to disconnect the drive line, linkages and speedo cable.
Remove the inspection plate.
Remove the torque converter/flex plate bolts
Remove the bellhousing bolts.
Remove tranny mount bolts.
I can't remember if you have to remove the tranny cross member to get it out or not, it seem like you do
Just don't be under it, cause it can mash you like a tater if you don't have a tranny jack...
You'll probably have to jack up the body and block it up to get the tranny out from underneath the rig...
I might have missed a thing or two... I don't remember

luvmy69,
Aint' too bad, but like the Kapn' said be careful.
Much easier with another set of hands for the "wiggle and fall" part.

You do, both the transmission and front suspension crossmembers, the bellhousing on an FE C-6 will not clear the suspension cross member.kaptnkaos wrote:Hey LUVMY69FORD250RANGER

I certainly wouldn't try it by myself in a Pull A Part without a transmission jack.

I pulled one out of a F350 69 to be exact, if your at a pick a part place, you can have it out in 20 minutes with the right tools. I was in a pinch and needed a tranny, lefty loose on all the bolts, cut the drive shaft off, and hooked to it with a 4 wheeler. Came right out landed in the dirt, and that is what is in my truck today. Of course that was a pick and pull, I didn't have any worries with being nice to the rest of the truck. Just there for the part.

re: hey guys!! is it hard to take out a c-6 tranny
The cross member has to come out, if memory serves me right, theres like a 9/16 head bolt that goes under the cross member on the mount that you can take out then jack the trans up as high as it will go and it should lift the mount right off and then you can unbolt the cross member, don't be afraid to hit it to get it out. Other than was mentioned, there might be a couple transmission cooler lines that need taken off.
Here are a few tips to try and make the job easier for you.
I'd really recommend renting a transmission jack, will make the job safer and easier. If the transmission doesn't sit real well on the jack, you can use wood to make it more stable.
Be sure to block the wheels and set the emergency brake before you take the drive shaft out. (Once the drive shaft is out theres nothing really holding the truck in park)
Make sure you support the engine with something when you take it out, preferably some boards or something solid, that way the engine will be close to where its supposed to when going back in, a bottle jack will work but will sink and make things aggravating.
It's just as important to keep the transmission straight coming out as it is going back in.
When you have everything disconnected and are ready to pull the transmission, it might be stuck on the dowel pins, I take a screw driver and a hammer and drive it in at points around the bell housing til I can get a pry bar in to separate it from the engine.
Hope that helps, if you need any more help just post back.
On edit: I just noticed there is a C6 for sale in the parts for sale forum

I beleive the tranny shops drop the trans cross and the cross just behind the engine too and also use a tranny jack.
been told fully drained they weigh about 100 or so pounds. Heard stories of people dropping them and juist rolling over and out from under the truck but that still sounds dangerous.

It is pretty dangerous, but he is going to a pick and pull place, I am sure the truck is going to be in the dirt, like the one I pulled the Tran from. No place for a transmission jack and such. Now when you do your truck all this advice is top notch. Take your time, and do it safe
