Not knowing what your 460 came out of I thought I would let you know a tidbit about the truck 460's. There is an adapter for the oil filter that points it forward. I do not know yet if I need one but will be shopping for one anyway. I would much rather find out I don't need it that put the front clip back on and find I can't change the oil filter without major surgery. I heard some trucks came with oil coolers that tapped into this adapter.texrodder wrote:elgemcdlf wrote:Got some engine swap pics today. I ordered headers for a '74 F100 2WD 460 pickup. In this first pic the engine is sitting on the CV crossmember. The headers dump into the firewall. Engine needs to go down at least 3". Rear sump pan required or totally custom fabbed headers. I am opting for the rear sump pan.

Im using my 460 with the CV swap and I've been shopping for a rear sump pan setup, here is the best deal I could find, other than used wrecking yard stuff.
Amazon has a complete kit part #M-6675-A460 , for $129 with free shipping, Summit sells it for $148 plus ..

What is the axle center on the CV? is it those two white pointy things on each side? Thanks

Same pan I'm using, won't work with HV oil pump though without modification.elgemcdlf wrote:Picked up my oil pan with everything required. Forward progress once again.

Re: 1970 F100 CV/Thunderbird
Not sure about that. I cut those pins off as they are for robot alignment of the IFS when assembling the CV. I marked my fenders and frame prior to disassembly with the axle centerline. I then used a square aligning the mark I made with the center of the hub. Drilled 1 hole. Took measurements and set the other side to match.marz68 wrote:What is the axle center on the CV? is it those two white pointy things on each side? Thanks

Re: 1970 F100 CV/Thunderbird
For now I am just a happy little camper having a pan that I can use. I am pushing the engine as far back as I can & as low as I can. The desired effect is better handling.BobbyFord wrote:Same pan I'm using, won't work with HV oil pump though without modification.elgemcdlf wrote:Picked up my oil pan with everything required. Here is a pic of the dash cleaned up a bit but not as far as I am going. I will also be using the original cluster.

Re: 1970 F100 CV/Thunderbird
Mine drives and handles great. The issues I have with the swap is relearning how to drive the truck. I have almost zero body roll. The close ratio rack makes for very responsive steering. Brakes: 12" rotors with dual piston calipers. She stops! Everything about this swap is a positive to me. I have no idea how it behaves if you want to use your truck as a truck. I retired mine from that type of service when I acquired it. I have done things with my truck I would have never imagined with a truck of this age. Taking an S curve going in at 60mph and accelerating all the way through. Truck was stuck to the ground like glue. I do believe I could have easily done the same thing in the 100mph range. With the IRS I can't imagine a truck riding & handling any better.whiteblur wrote:Im curious how these bumps drive with the crown vic front end as well as handle.......

She runs! Open headers but running none the less. Still have a ways to go before it is driveable. The 460 swap dropped the nose another 1/2". It is officially 10 1/4" from the ground to the bottom of the front bumper.

Did you get your oil filter figured out ? I know a If you want to go with a shorter oil filter a fram ph16 should fit and is shorter . I dont like fram filters but just cross reference it. purolator L14670. This is what I used on my 302 in my 37 ford. I also know that on out 87 f-700 it had an oil filter adapter stock that changed the direction of the filter maybe could find one in a yard.
the 4.0 used one also might work

I have that adapter but for some reason when looking at my setup not using it seems the best option. I don't remember what the reasoning was but most likely clearance issues with rack/steering shaft.48prerunner wrote:Did you get your oil filter figured out ?
