horn

Post by alvinator »

I have a set of air horns off a diesel train and I am looking at putting them on the 68. I was thinking about taping into the wire for the main horn and putting in a toggle switch so that I could switch between the two horns, do you see any problems with doing this?

as far as I see, nope. Long as all either horn needs to run is straight charge, there wont be any problems with splitting it between whichever you want for the moment. Should be fine.

I'm thinking with something that big you might want to install those with a relay, depending on how much juice they'd need. (I'm talking about the train horns, BTW. Barry's air-raid siren looks to be fully self-contained.) ;)

That air-raid siren would be the perfect way to get the point across to tail-gaters, wouldn't it? Just load it into the back of your truck facing rearward, and then let 'er rip....it would probably peel the paint off the hood of the guy behind you, though!

wait a minute... how does an air horn run on an electrical circuit??? big trucks have engine driven air compressors. you will have to find a small electric compressor to run an air horn.

not necessary, i was thinking about putting the tank on the frame and just fill it up every so often rather than putting a pump on the truck.

you could get one of those tire compressors that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

i put together an on board air setup and used a York a/c compressor from a Volvo, and it's set up to pump air instead of freon. so it's engine driven, and FAST. i have a 3 gallon tank mounted under the bed of the Toyota, and the compressor will fill the whole system (tank, lines, etc..) from 0-100 psi in about 30 seconds with the engine at 2000 rpm.
then i have an electric over air solenoid on the air horn, and the electric curcuit only controls which horn gets the juice when i hit the button.
