Bench seat re-upholstered cost?

Post by 1972hiboy »

What have you guys paid in the past? or have gotten quotes from? I was just quoted 1,000 bucks to redo my uncles truck bench seat out of his 70'
quote was for vinyl / fabric where you sit, pleated. and foam repair. For whatever reason I was assuming it was going to be in the 300-500 range but maybe prices have gone up ? what do guys/gals think?

I just replaced the upholstery on my 75 bench seat (didn't have to repair the foam). I ordered the upholstery from here https://www.stockinteriors.com/items.as ... tDescTable . They have options for vinyl with cloth inserts or vinyl only and they come with all the supplies to do it yourself. I just got black, pleated vinyl for mine and am loving it. There are also a couple of vendors that sell the bottom seat foam as well. The upholstery kit fit like factory and only cost me $288.00 with shipping and only took me a day to pull the seats, remove the old upholstery and install the new. Makes the truck interior look a lot different than the torn up saddle blanket seat covers over the split vinyl/duct tape. Give them a look.

Markguiver, any chance you could post up a pic of your completed seat cover?

Where can you find the replacement seat foam for the bottom? Everywhere I look it says discontinued. Thanks in advance!

Maybe try CJ pony parts or LMC.

There are several seat rebuild threads on here but none of them, that I can find, reference repro foam. Most used "mattress foam" and the only spec was to get the firmest you could find. https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8& ... cation.com

The driving factor on why most of us choose to simply upgrade the seat, (unless your staying 100% OEM) as the newer even dent era seats are twice as comfortable with twice the amount of cushioning. :2cents:

Rich did you try DC / Green Sales / Mac's / and NPD for the upholstery?
Back in the 90's I had another source for our trucks interior but have long since lost it, (want to say it was like "Autofab" or "Auto---"? :hmm:

Good morning Jeff, and everybody, thanks for the replies. I have not done much shopping around on my own yet. I dropped the seat off with the idea it was going to be 3-6 hundred range and I was going to pay it just to get it done, but the one thousand quote caught me off guard, I will check those sources out and see what I can find because honestly Its not like I haven't done this before. Or maybe in the meantime to get me on the road Ill throw the set of bucket seats and console I grabbed from a truck several years ago.

I was quoted $800 last year. This is from a local upholstery shop.

I just had a similar experience of a $1k+ quote to make and install a cover and wound up instead buying the two tone dark green and seafoam green pre made 67-72 F series bench seat cover from CJ Pony that is as close to a perfect match as my original as possible and the cost was 275.00 with free shipping. So I will be doing the work of swapping the cover but I have the tools to do the work and have done quite a few over the years.

Rock Auto carries upholstery made by Acme for about $212.00 plus shipping. I bought some for my 79 and thought it looked great. I didn't need any new padding though. It is really hard to stretch it enough to get it on but I guess it has be tight so it looks good after it's installed. I used a hair dryer to help stretch it.
