3 on the tree rebuild
Hoping someone is as crazy as I am!
My 70 f100 has the original 3 on the tree, and it's failed..
I'm wanting to rebuild it. The issue is inside the column itself.
Does anyone know of an available rebuild kit?
It doesn't shift from 1st to 2nd or 3rd.. just a sloppy lever

Had the same problem and rebuilt mine. She worked like new after that. Here's a little something that might give you a head's up what you're looking at. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... hp?t=72274. It's an automatic, didn't write up my 3OTT REBUILD, but they're mostly the same. There's no rebuild kit to speak of but all of the wearable parts are available. It's a weekend job if nothing serious is wrong. I can give you a list if you'd like.

You can get away with just these parts unless some of your cast parts or the shift tube are damaged. That's an old article so pricing is probably somewhat higher. This is all I replaced on mine. While you have your column out, I would also go ahead and replace the rubber boot on the bottom. https://www.carolina-classics.com/carol ... er=product

One other thing is replace the nuts that hold the arms to the transmission. After rebuilding the shifter on my F-250, it would get stuck in second gear. Turns out the nut on the 2-3 arm would loosen up & the arm would flop around. Replaced the nuts with lock nuts & problem solved. If I recall, they are 3/8-24 nuts.
If common sense was really common, wouldn't everybody be using it?

Good tip dftuttle! I had the same issue with mine and did the same thing. Replace the rubber linkage bushings too while it's out. http://dennis-carpenter.com/m/product.a ... 5TZ-7343-A A lot easier on the bench than in the truck. Test fit the rods through them. I had to trim the brass to get the retainer on.

My lower bearing was gone on my '67 F-100 3-speed column shift. I removed the column and rebuilt it using all new parts, including a used center shaft. Everything tightened up nicely. Problem is, I only have neutral, second, and third. No first or second. Transmission shifts, but the column doesn't. Any ideas what I have done?
