New windshield

I am looking for a new windshield for my '72. LMC charges almost as much to ship as one costs (going to be over $300). Local shops can't find one.

Does anyone know of a good source? Thanks

I would find a local shop that Can find one , then pay them to put it in.
Because if they break their windshield they wont charge you for a second one.

You are surrounded by sources there in Alabama in the form of boneyards! Keep in mind that any windshield from 1967 to 1979 F-100 / F-150 /F-250 / F-350 will fit your truck. Can probably be bought for less than $50-use a new gasket with lots of soapy water and a 1/4" rope to install and you'll be fine.

Yep - what Basketcase said. Find a good one at the wrecking yard, and take a sharp knife and cut around the gasket between the glass and body. If you don't want to put it in yourself, buy a new gasket and find a shop that will.

Thanks, I appreciate the tips. I have not been able to find any used glass here in Montgomery. I'll have to expand my search. I have the old one out and have a new gasket, but I still may have someone else install it when I find one. The back glass is out also and it sure is a tight fit getting it back in. Might have to pay for that install also.

I'll keep calling around, maybe I'll get lucky.

Back glass can be roped in safely because it's tempered .
The windshield is a laminated glass and can crack easy.
If you have a new gasket , especially with chrome , leave it to the pros.
Even the pros won't guarantee a used glass.

http://Www.safelite.com or just do a Internet search for your truck glass. There are many places that can get them. I wouldn't pay for that shipping.

The back window is very easy. I think I did one with my fingers and then at the end I used screwdrivers to get the rest of the rubber in.
