70-72 XLT woodgrain panel letters sure do look familiar
I have a 71 XLT w/ the black trim, but I think I would like to convert to woodgrain when I paint the truck. I'm going black and you can't beat the woodgrain on black. Anyway. I have the full black panel on my tailgate. I was looking at the woodgrain version and it looks like the letters they use on it are the same as the hood letters. Is this true? Do they come off like the hood letters?

Come on guys. If I had a xlt woodgrain panel, I would look myself, but I don't. I know it doesn't have to do w/ a 67 but it is interesting. Are the letters used on a 70-72 woodgrain panel, the same letters as used on the hood? Are they bigger? Are the smaller? Did the letters that came on the F600 hood get bigger. Maybe those are the ones used. Maybe Ford used F600 hood letters on the F100 xlt woodgrain panel. Who knows. Maybe someone with a XLT (woodgrain) will step up and measure the letters.
This is keeping me up at nights. ......Not really, but I do want to know.

The hood letters and tailgate letters on my 72 measure the same.
Never had it off, so I don't know if they come off or not, but they certainly aren't embossed in.
Look the same as the Hood letters to me.

I have also heard that the '70-'72 hood letters are the same as the '72-'76 Ranchero tailgate letters.

the 71 XLT Woodgrain letters on the Tailgate seem to be the same as on the hood. I saw your post and went outside to do a quick check and the "F" is 1 " tall by 3" wide at the top.
I have no idea about an F600, but the F100 is yes.
Thanks,
Bobby

Cool. Thanks guys. These are the things I like to know. I have at least a couple of extra sets of hood letters. If I find a wood grain panel that is missing some letters for a good price, then I know it isn't a problem.
