Hayride truck impounded!
Ok, ok, so I sold it first. Funny, I kept getting notices for past due parking fines. I sent in the notice of sale to the DMV. I sent copies to the courthouse when the tickets showed up the first two times, then sent em a nastygram when they threatened to ding my credit for a truck I didn't own.
Now they send me the impound notice with another credit threat. Time to send the real nasty letter.
Too bad, maybe I can pay the fees and recollect it. Wouldn't be right though would it?
Nah.

You'd best check the impound fee + storage + tow, first. Who did you sell the truck to? I was a bit worried about that mess myself when I sold my 67. You might have to show up in person at the DMV.

Yeah, It's a pain. I just have to take a little pleasure in the fact that the county courthouse and the DMV are both irritated with the whole thing too.
I'm pretty good about keeping important records so I have a copy of his drivers liscense and affidavit of sale before the date on the parking ticket.
I'll get down there at my own pace I reckon. I did already send them copies of all the documents twice so It's just a burr under my saddle now.
Thanks though for the advice.

Fact: In oklahoma It is known as the tag office A.K.A. The Tag Orifice.
Funny/sad thing is about 5 yrs. back i owned a 77 nova and after mom wrecked it. Well i was planning a rebuild on the front end. And the day i showed up with the front end it had been vandalized. well i let kluaers pick n pull have it in fact i had to give them fifty bucks.
I signed all the appropriate stuff. and mailed it in. Well up until last year i was getting notices of how far behind i was with reg. Well pick n pull has a buddy or two of mine working the one on monterey highway in san jose,ca. and i called them and asked for the record on the car and it had been so maliciously vandalized they filed the proof of destruction paperwork.
So any ways dmv was threatening me that they would mark it as tow away even if it was in my driveway on jack stands without motor.
Until both I and pick n pull told them where to shovel it.
See my grandfather (may he rest in peace) Worked for Calyalytrans as i called it in my childhood. And "California is a mickey mouse state ran by pluto." Is what he would say.
Any body else want the apple box?

re: Hayride truck impounded!
A few years ago I bought a puke green 79 supercab 4x4 to fix up and sell. Buying a puke green anything to resell is a big mistake and eventually a friend who lives on the highway and had cars/boats evt. for sale all the time says he will take a stab and park it in his little park and sell. Well he sells the truck to some guy who is heading to South America in it. (from Alaska). But the joker decides to swing through Anchorage and spend a few days accumulating parking tickets before he heads out. Of course I don't realize it until I start getting the letters. It isn't hard to fix, just send an affidavit that I don't own it anymore, which I did. Then I still get the letters. Seems she forgot to make it clear that I need to file an affidavit for each parking ticket.. The annoying part is that the whole time they are hasseling me and they want to know who, I told them that the guy who transferred it into his name the day after the last ticket was the culprit. They do not have the authority to assume that.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Re: Hayride truck impounded!
Uh Oh, you did realize that you are responsible and by violating California law you are the problem not the DMV or the government? Although buried very deep in the books and hard to find (don't even ask the idiots at DMV) there is a cute little caveat to transfering vehicles. It is rarely enforced or even applied but in California, by law, you must accompany the buyer to DMV and transfer the vehicle unless you are a dealer. The problem is this law is not used but all other laws are based on it so unless the buyer was honest and went to DMV and transferred the vehicle you are still the legal responsible party. hey Hawkrod, why is it you know everything about everything and the only time you post is to tell someone they are in the wrong??
step up and prove this law by posting a link, not just spouting off.
and by the way, it most states (like washington for example) you send in a form with the sellers and your info, and it becomes a legal document to prove sale of vehicle, and date of sale.

There ya go hawkrod, I found your link. funny, it specifically says you can mail in the documents, but nowhere does it say you have to go to the DMV with the buyer. this was found here....

No, that is a part of the Vehicle code, the other is some antiquted DMV regulation I was shown by a smart a$$ DMV employee who was more concerned in pointing out that it was my fault. Until the paperwork is properly transferred to DMV the seller still owns it and is liable. Hawkrod

re: Hayride truck impounded!
Am I supposed to be offended? Word of mouth? Yes its my word that I was shown the rules and I don't have a copy so if you are questioning my integrity you done a really good job. But despite my lack of physical proof the above vehicle code does support what I said about responsibility. You own the vehicle and are responsible for it until the paperwork is turned in to DMV so not going in and doing it with the buyer is just plain stupid. You have no way of knowing if they will ever do it and you are responsible for anything that happens until DMV gets the signed title and application for transfer. In my case it was much worse but fortunatly I had not canceled the car insurance yet and although my rates went up I only had to cover a small mount out of pocket and then I also had to pay for towing impound and disposal of the vehicle all told selling a $2000.00 car cost me about $800 not counting increased insurance rates and this was in 1980 so I am sure today it would be worse. Whoa!!:box:
Just trying to give others a little headds up. Be careful when you sell a vehicle. In CA (as well as most border states I'm sure) illegals often buy vehicles with a lot of time on the tags so they can drive without registering them. I did (and recommend) copy the driver's licsense, signed title, signed affidavit of sale all of which was apparently good enough for the sherif and DMV.
Really though, just posted this for the entertainment value not to start a flamethrowing contest.
