Re: Dana 60 question ???
Never own'd one myself... But I assume they're just like any other axle, they have the option for limited-slip, or posi-traction, from the factory but came off the line with any one of those or the plain old open carrier, just like the 9", 8", 8.8", & 7.5"... I assume the Dana Axles are no different; It was more or less a "mark to order" option. But I would imagine a Camper-Special would have come with that option as well as the lower-gears... but what do I know
That 76' lwb 2wd F-100 I had had the 9" rear, & it has 4.10/Posi' Later!

Re: Dana 60 question ???
I'd assume the axle # on the door-tag, or the lil' aluminum Tag on the Axle dif-cover, or brake-line bolt should have the reference # for your axle on it... Should be able to look it up with the Axle-code! ... but wait til'

Re: Dana 60 question ???
i think one way to tell is to have the back of the truck supported safly with the rear wheels off the ground and with the transmission in nuetral turn one of the wheels and see if the other moves with it in the same direction....... now this may just apply to posi-traction.
The tag idea works great if your sure its the original axle... the axle its self should also have a tag if its still read able.

Re: Dana 60 question ???
when jacked up and turning the tires a nonlocker will turn each tire in a different direction. a locker should turn both tire in the same direction.

Re: Dana 60 question ???
On a straight stretch of dry back country road-
If it's auto- Place gear selector in reverse, push accelerator pedal swiftly to full, count "one thousand one, one thousand two" then without decreasing accelerator position rapidly move gear selector from down to it's limit which will be "1". Note engine tone, upon noticeable valve float sound bump gear selector upward one notch to "2". When speedometer indicates approximately 45 MPH ease off accelerator and gently apply brake.
If it's stick- With transmission in 2nd gear and clutch disengaged bring engine RPM's to approximately 3500. Rapidly release clutch pedal while moving accelerator to full. Note engine tone, upon noticeable valve float sound simultaneously ease off accelerator while depressing clutch. Shift transmission to nuetral.
Turn around and inspect tire marks on pavement. Two equal length tire marks indicate a Powerlock limited slip. Two marks with the driver's tire mark noticeably longer than the passenger tire mark indicates a new Trac-loc limited slip. One tire mark indicates an open differential or a Trac-loc more than a month old.
If you have determined you have a limited slip Dana 60 differential, but cannot determine if it's a Powerlock or a Trac-loc place the driver's side tire off the pavement in gravel and the other on pavement and repeat testing procedure. If there's a tire mark on the asphalt you have a powerlock. Lack of a tire mark indicates a trac-loc.

Re: Dana 60 question ???
whatever you do dont' go down the road at 65 and slam it in to park or reverse. you will have to go back and pickup the transmission off the ground.
