Some interesting details noted today...(with pics)

I was stripping down the '67 F250 cab today and found a couple interesting tidbits. I don't know if these are more '67-only anomalies or not, but they're things I've never seen before, so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone else has seen these on their trucks or maybe a parts truck.

This is a shot of the chrome headliner trim. In all the trucks I've parted out I've never seen headliner trim that was held in with clips in addition to the screws.



...and here's a shot of the roof panel. There were two evenly-spaced wooden spacers used, I'm guessing to help support the roof. They look too professional to be have been added by a previous owner...and in fact I doubt if the headliner has ever even been removed from this truck before:



So has anyone ever run into either of these things before?

As far as I know the headliner trim in my ranger is only comprised of four pieces held with screws. I bought a replcement set from a guy who got it out of a '71 and it was also only 4 pieces. Then yesterday on eBay I noticed some headliner trim, I think from a '67, and it appeared to have those clips. Seems like a '67 thing. I havent removed my headliner yet so I don't know about the wood spacers.

Yeah, the '67-'69 trim was 6 pieces, because the back two corner pieces were separate. The '70-'72 trim was 4 pieces, because they integrated the back corners, but they're all interchangable.

I have the same wood wedges between the roof supports and roof panel on my 72. Also a wood block supporting the center mounting screw. I removed the headliner on mine last week and noticed that. My trim used only screws though, no clips.

Blue had those same clips in the headliner trim (I remember cause they were a real PITA to get out ) Looks like it might be another 67 thing.

yeah, they're snaps, around the whole perimeter of the rear window. The previous owner had a camper on this truck, and had removed the rear window and installed a weatherproof snap-on boot for easy access to the camper. I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to take those out or leave 'em....but more than likely they'll be removed and the holes filled.

Thanks everyone.....so, it looks like the wood wedges were used all years, but the clips could possibly be another '67-only anomaly. If I don't hear back otherwise, I think I'll add this to the ID page. In fact, there are so many things that are adding up as '67-only, I might have to just create a whole new page dedicated to those differences!

Are they solid wood blocks? They almost look like ceder shims.

look like cedar shims to me also.

Hmmm....didn't actually inspect them that closely, but upon further review of the pictures, you could be right. I'll make a note to check those out a little closer.

Must be a 67 thing becuase my headliner trim was the same way and I had them little blocks as well.Jerry

My '68 CrewCab is missing the headliner and trim but those clips still remain in the holes. But my previous '68 Custom Cab, Camper Special didn't have the clips or the wood, but it could have removed.

The wood may have been a dealer installed fix for a noise complaint. I'm just guessing since there seems to be no ryhme or reason to what models had them.

I'll try my best to confuse you . My 68 has the clips as well as the screws, and mine only has one wooden block. It's in the middle.

Someone had told me back when I got my first '67 that the woods were installed to keep the roof from "popping" at high road speeds. Although mine still did this, it drove me crazy when you hit 70+ mph and the top oilcaned.

I am not sure if this is the real reason, it was just a memorable conversation as I didn't believe the guy. They look like small pieces of plywood to me in your pics. but I didn't inspect them real well. Also the '67 I have now doesn't have these, but they might have been removed before I aquired the truck.
