Olde Skool Update

Post by kaptnkaos »

Olde Skool update 4/14/07

Spent the afternoon tracing down wiring and revamping tailight fixtures. The project got really involved quick... ended up having to go to Cut Rate Auto Parts (CRAP) and ordering two new tailight/turnsignal sockets.
Once again I was amazed... if the aging of a bump can be told by the number of crimp connecters on a single line, I'd have to guess Olde Skool is at least 107. I have never seen so many crimp connectors in my life...
I at least found some hot wires in the back... Marker lights and tail lights on the drivers side... no turns yet. I'm not sure what I have on the otherside.. I do know what I dont have.... the big main light not only didn't have a wired going to it.. it didnt even have a pig tail (hence my having to order two new ones.)
I learned that the two large (7-8 inches across)red lights in the back weren't turn signals at all they were simply marker lights. There were two small lights (4 inch ) one on each side (neither of which were in any kind of working condition). They were the tail/turn/and license plate lights... well now, one is gonna be the license plate light and the other one is going to not exist. I revamped the light housing with a single filiment light socket. Were I am not gonna install the other 4 inch light is where I wanna put my 110V incoming line and circuit breakers.
It was raining on and off here all day so when it was raining I pulled the dash panel.. I found a virtual rats nest of wires. There were several exposed wires... my test light assured me that they were all hot...
It looks like there may have been a wiring connector there were some many crimp connectors and patched in wiring that it was difficult to follow anything... so I didn't even start on that....
I ended up cleaning up the dash panel and giving it a coat of rust convertor and a light coat of Rustolium white. I'll probably give it two or three more coats of white.

I'll try to get some more pics tomorrow
That'd all folks,
Allan
