Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Ok, I am 90% sold on this, but looking for some opinions to either reinforce my idea, or to shoot me down. Obviously any bump purist is going to say no because this does not go, but this truck is in no way going to be a pure one year only anyway. Its a 69 with a 460 in it, the bed and hood is from my 72, I am running 67 hood emblems and 67 fenders with a 72 grille (with billet inserts). So no one could pick the year of this truck anyway without seeing the VIN and would only guess that it is a 67-72. All that being said, I pulled this from a 66 in the pick-a-part and it has been sitting on my workbench just because it is bad-ass. I sat my 67 F350 emblems down the other day and they happened to be sitting right next to this. Needless to say, I immediately saw that they go hand in hand and decided that I want this on my truck too... So, opinions?
It just goes with all of the other badges that I took off of the truck and I think it keeps the old school look going. Not shown are the "Custom" badges from the 72 bed. And I am still going to run the 390 badges even though the truck now has a 460 in it. They are original and I like the look. Not overly impressed with any of the 460 badges I have seen. Other than the Thunderbird ones, the looks don't go with this era of truck, and the Thunderbird badges are out of the question..

Yeah, I will mock them up tomorrow when I get home from work and take a corner shot showing the front and side emblem on together. Ill throw on the FORD lettering too since it will go with the front. I'm curious to see it all together too.CrypticRacer13 wrote:I like it, can you take a picture from far away with the front emblems on?

It does seem to go well with the hood. The top of the emblem almost looks like a extension of the hood bump.

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Hey Mike, here is the mock up with the emblems on that you requested... Still hard to visualize the whole look without the hood trim, grille and bumper on the truck, but it works. I will have to clean up the emblems a bit to get them to shine like the rest of the pieces on the front end will, but that is no big deal.
I think I might need to mount the hood emblem a little higher though. Still contemplating in my head where I want to mount it. Here is what I have so far... I will post more if I decide to move the emblem higher.

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
The more I looked at it, the more I wanted the hood ornament higher. So I went ahead and remounted it so the top of the ornament is in line with the crest of the hood. The "wings" stick out a little high now, but that is okay, its still a better look that when it was sitting low.
It doesnt sit as flush with the hood from the sides as I would like, but the gap is not THAT big (looks worse in the photo) and maybe we could fab something up to make it fit more flush... I dunno... still thinking...
It didnt sit any more flush when it was lower. The only difference was that the side points did not clear the top of the hood. It looks great from the front and not too bad from the side, but you can see the back of the casting from the rear (which is really only from inside the cab or the drivers/passenger door). So I think I am going to live with it higher because it looks a lot better from the front (in my opinion). Would love to hear other opinions as well though... Good or bad..

I think my first mounting was a little too low and I like the higher mounting better. But now that I look at it a little more, I think it might be best if it was about a 1/2 inch lower. Basically, instead of having the top of the emblem lined up with the crest of the hood, I might try lining up the top of the two lower flat edges with the rest of the hood and having the center crest of the hood a little higher than the top of the emblem.
Basically it will sit in about the middle of the 2 spots that I have photographed. I will play with that idea and see if that will look best. If not, I will probably just go with the higher mount that I have right now. Man, too much thought put into a dumb hood ornament.

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Ok, so I tried the new spot and I think I found a winner if I decide to run the hood ornament. This one is right about halfway between the previously pictured locations and it seems to flow the best.
Again, I am not completely sure I am going to run the hood emblem, but if I do, this is the final spot where it will sit. I really want honest opinions on whether people like this or hate it... I am on the fence right now either way.
Sorry for the quality of the pics, but the sun was in a crappy spot and I didnt feel like waiting to take them.

You could also grind out the backside and top of the emblem so it contours better and then have it rechromed and painted. I think I have some of those somewhere

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Mike - Thanks... Yeah, the more I look at the newest spot, the more I am sold on running it. I just couldnt get happy with it in the first 2 spots.
Bobby - I am contemplating grinding it, but if I screw it up, it is the only one I have... . I may just do a little at a time until is sits flush. Its a good idea. If I can score a second one at a pick-a-part, I wont be as nervous. I am probably going to hit the 2 yards at Penrose off the 5 this Saturday morning, so Ill see what I can find, but I don't usually see a lot of slicks there and when I do, most of the hood emblems are already gone (or they are the 6 cylinder ones). As for re-chroming them and painting them, I am contemplating that, but I might just polish the exposed chrome up and leave the patina from the faded paint on the emblems. I like the aged look.. I might touch up the paint a little or I might not. Just haven't decided that yet. I may wait to decide once I have the truck painted as I am not sure how the aged looking paint on the emblems will work with a freshly painted truck.
