Finaly got the Hurculiner on today! Not bad.
I wanna thank Keith and everyone else for the encoragement to do this.
I realy like this look. And after the second coat you could barely see where the floor boards were cut and welded.
Im not much of a welder, Im just learning so Im realy happy with the way this turned out.
Im figuring that with a double coat of Hurculiner on the cab floor and cab bottom it should go a long way to help reduce noise and heat in the truck.
Now if I could only get this crap off my hands.

This stuff is incredible! I highly recomend Hurculiner for the floor boards. I used a whole gallon on the inside and outside of the cab floor/bottom.
This was my first time ever using this stuff and it went on pretty easily.
But like Kieth said earlier, the quality of the job is in the prep work. It takes a while to get the floor completely roughed up and clean enough so that you have no problems applying this stuff.
If done right, you will be pleased.

Want to come weld some stuff for me?
I dont remember who was the first to post a pic of thier cab floor done up like this but the first time I saw it I knew I had to try it. Im glad I did.
Heh, yea Ill do some welding for ya. But you gotta come down here for it. Sharks dont like cold weather.
And be forewarned. I dont know what Im doing. But Im learning as I go.
This is the first welding Ive ever done. Took burning up the first spool of wire thru the mig just to get the technique, speed, and amp settings right.

Yes a LOT of work went into it. But for me its a labor of love. (Everyone say it with me? Awwwwww.... )1970sportcustom wrote:A lot of work went into it. Looks good.
Now I need to get going on priming the cab and putting it on the frame. But it seems like the 70 is fighting me with every step.
Ironicaly, the donor truck came apart fairly easy. But the 70 doesnt seem to wanna give up any of its bolts or parts.
I was gonna try painting it myself but decided that I will just do ALL of the prep work myself and just pay someone to shoot it for me.
I feel that if I had a proper paint booth that I could probably do a fair job. But being that Im working under a tarp in my back yard, trying to paint it myself would just set me up for a dis-apointment.
Ever see a nice paint job ruined because its full of trash?

For anyone who is interested, here are a few more pix of my cab swap progress. Slow but still moving foreward.
After prepping the donor cab with Hurculiner on its bottom I spent time removing the old rusted cab from the 70s frame.
Because Im not reusing it I took the easy way out and just pushed it off the frame from the side. No need to be carefull with it, so it made it a little more fun. Took out some frustrations too.

Well, Im not gonna shoot the paint myself because I dont wanna do it in my backyard with no booth or anything. If a had one, I think I could do a decent job, but without one there would just be too much trash in the paint to make me happy.
But I am gonna do all of the finish bodywork and primer myself. (Plus I dont have the cash for paint right now but I do already have my primer.
The frame needs more cleaning before I paint it with anything.

you are the inspiration for my own cab swap!
I'm stealing all your good ideas for my truck.
Sorry Keith, but the driveway swap is a lot closer to what I'm doing. I couldn't hope to do my truck like yours!

In life many men take the path of righteousness, some take the path many others follow (G.M. owners, for example), some take a more arduous path, some a simpler path. I, sir, took the PSYCO-PATH!!

Glad to be any kind of inspiration around here. Keith certainly has inspired me!
I would love to do my truck to his detail but limited funds and resources dictate otherwise.
Always do the best you can with what you got. Anythings better than doing nothing.
And the "good ideas" came from right here in these forums. So steal away.
72hiboy4x4,
Have you seen what Rust Bullet did for the inside and outside of my door pillars? And the inside of my cab corners?

I brushed it on the drip rail too.
I like that stuff. Sprays on with a regular paint gun right out of the can and cleans up with Acetone.
Im gonna get more and spray the inside of my fenders, doors and hood before I put em back on.
