Re: Project Basketcase#16, D-Day for my "lil 302" wish me luck!
Well the day has finally come after months of hard work to start my "little 302"! Zach and I got fuel to the engine late last night, (remember I live in Peyton Place) it was too late to try and bring BC # 16 back to life. I didn't have power to my coil for some reason and was too tired from working on the truck all day. After a good nights sleep I now believe I know why I didn't have power to the coil. I should have a video later tonight of the break-in on the "little 302".
Here's a few pictures of my "ghetto shifter", (as some members here call floor shifters). The existing C-6 linkage has to be modified for the B & M mega truckshifter linkage to hook up:
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff13 ... ild039.jpg
Here's the C-6 linkage modified-and the B & M's linkage attached to the C-6 selector shaft:
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff13 ... ild042.jpg
And here's my "ghetto" shifter installed in the truck:
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff13 ... ild040.jpg
I've had this shifter for several years now anticipating the build. And I've always been kind of fond of B & M's floor shifters, (had one in the 74 I owned for several years-trouble free). I've gotten this one mounted and adjusted so I won't have to reach at all:
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff13 ... ild041.jpg
And here's the "little 302" last night waiting to breathe!
I'll have a lot of "punch list" items to get through, but just getting it to sucessfully fire and get the cam break-in today will be such a blessing to me. Please wish me luck!

Re: Project Basketcase#16 the "little 302" is alive!
Bill,
Thanks for the compliment, but sadly the MC (a new one-not rebuilt) failed to bleed.
So I have to get another to get the brakes going.
My son Zach and I got the "little 302" fired up yesterday and the cam break in done. Had to shut it down after that though, just too loud with the short pipes on it. At one point the next door neighbor came out and looked like they were going to start throwing stuff at me!
We're working on the dual exhaust today, so maybe tomorrow I can start tuning the engine.
I've still got a long ways to go with a bunch of stuff on a "punch list" but here's the break in video!

Fordtruck, thanks. The cams a little more radical than I wanted, but couldn't really afford to buy a new one so it will have to do for awhile.
I'll hopefully do the final tuning tomorrow on the 302. I've got about 2 hours run time on it now and got the Prestone back in it, (after running the heater hoses and getting the proper radiator hoses on it). My son Zach and I got the tranny cooler mounted and the tranny lines ran this week as well as the Autometer oil press & water temp gauges installed into the F-600 panel and hooked up to the truck.
I've got a very long list still of punch list items, (a lot of wiring on the lights/brakes) and brackets and such but BC 16 might actually be ready for a road trip in a short two weeks?

Re: Project Basketcase#16 the "little 302" is alive!
Well no new pictures guys but an update of sorts...
I got the 1 & 1/2" X 3" chanell primered/painted and welded onto the truck's rear frame. This replaced the rotten wood that was under the original flatbed to make it level for mounting the bed. My frame had some pretty bad rust where the wood was at (holding moisture onto the frame rail), and it took a lot of work to get it back to painting shape. There will never again be wood touching BC # 16's frame!
For the first time in 6 months or so...
BC # 16 finally pulled herself from the back yard to the front yard under her own power last weekend!
Yeah ok...with no brakes(E-brake only) and no power steering, but it's a start!

Congrats!!!
Look what I found on the side of the road! And it measures like it will bolt right onto BC # 16!
The center section of the headache rack was designed to be removable, (slide-in camper/etc.). And I've still gotta' get some metal for the "side boards", I really don't want to put wood on it for the side boards. Hopefully the diamond plate aluminum for that won't "break the bank"!

Thanks guys!
Steve, I can't really look at that aspect of my truck like that.
I'd much rather put the money into the Bump that I can work on rather than a "disposable" newer truck.
I've been working on getting the bed mounted, (I had insisted the design be followed using my drawing for the bed mounts). This will enable using the factory cab/chassis mounts rather than use a flat plate mounting method which most flat beds are using now. I'll try to have more pictures by the weekend hopefully!
