mirrors

Post by lobuck76 »

I picked up a set of mirrors for the '71 today at ol' buddy's salvage. In case anyone is interested. The early to mid '90s brake away mirrors have about the right angle on the brackets for our doors. Looks like the will fit up nice. Ron

Those are my favorite style of mirrors. I threw away a perfect set of the big chromed Ford script west coast mirrors and put a set on my 72 from a mid 80s Ranger. I had to tweak the brackets a little. The only thing I don't like about the newer ones is the "Objects are closer than they appear" right side ones.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

The 71 had the 3 arm chevy mirrors on it . They are actually pretty decent mirrors, they just don't look right on the ford. There are also about a half a dozen holes on each door from other assorted mirrors. I hadn't planned on doing any bodywork on the truck anytime soon. But I gotta braze up all those extra holes. They're buggin the crap out of me.
I'll post some pictures when I get them mounted up. I'll probabley pull the door panels and put some plates behind instead of just using sheet metal screws.

I used a pair off an 87...I like em for the most part. Lots better than my old non matching tripod mirrors...They mount, and fit the contour with no problem. The ones I have have the single "flat bar" type mount, that makes a curving V sort of shape. They breakaway, and have reset notches, to move them back into position, without having to re-aim. The mirror backs are slightly aero shaped, and stainless. I think my passenger side does have the "closer than it appears" writing... MK

Same as mine....Exactly. Except mine have 3 inch round fisheyes in the upper far corner of each mirror...Those may have been stuck on by the guy I got them from. He replaced the mirrors on his 87, and gave me the old ones. MK

The mirrors on my Kawi say
CAUTION: OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE DUMBER THAN THEY APPEAR. Gonna put that on the Shrektruck's mirrors too.
I'll see if I can get a pic. Actually, I'll post a little tutorial on glass etching with your sandblaster for those that are interested. It was going to be my big money maker till I realized the set up is the hard part and people really aren't interested in paying for custom work now they just don't see the time behind the product. I've enclosed a pic of the glass ornaments (180) I made for my daughters girl scout Father+Daughter Dance. The detail's a little tough to make out in the pic but they look real sharp. Ok, I'm rambling and just realized this post probably belongs somewhere else.
