made some progress the last days.
Since the shiftboot ist just bolted through the carpet and I don´t like this look, I made a aluminium frame to cover the outer edges of the boot. Looks way better in my mind:


My girlfriend made some black covers for the original beige sunvisors and they look brandnew with them



Since there was no rearview mirror when I bougth the truck I had to source a new one. My new windshield had no glued on bracket for the date correct 68 mirror and so I ended up using a universal aftermarket chrome mirror. But I think it looks good so far, maybe a bit to much down, but the mirror arm is fixed on that length. It doesn´t look odd in my mind. Made some little stainless retainers for the visor ends to keep them in place.



I was lucky and found a good trim piece for the front fender which was missing, also for the door. So I got the doors reassembled with new rubber parts and felt kits:




The door to cab seals had to be glued to the frame:


Today I installed the hood back on the truck with all trim and mounted the drivers door. Alignment took a while, but it´s ok for now:




I really like the look of the patina paint combined with polished trim I´ll try to polish the paint aswell, but very carefully.
The next days I´m going to install the passenger side door to get the cab "waterproof". I need to move the truck to the outside because I need the space in my workshop to get the bed finished.
Hopefully I´m ready for road safety inspection by end of march..

I´m on the final way with my build
After front and cab was done I continued working on the bed. It was already sand blasted an primed (original outside paint surfaces were not blasted and remain).
I started on the underside with some underbody coating and painted everything:



Then I flipped the bed over and installed it back on the frame. Looks very good and I like the exhaust position:


With the bed on the truck I moved along with the inside of the bed. I used a black 2K bedliner which makes real good looking structure:




The next big part was the tailgate. It was kind of butchered from the PO:


After welding new sheet metal in (see pic´s on previous posts) I started to smooth the metal surface with some light use of bondo to get a good surface for paint:

Next step was applying the basecolor of my two tone paint setup (pebble beige):


So when this first coat was dry I covered everything which should remain beige to apply the white as the second basecolor:


At the end I applied clear coating to the whole tailgate surface. I really like the look and how it went out. (good enough for a dirty garage paint job )

The back of the tailgate will be coated with bedliner when the clear coating is finally hardened.

Moving along with the interior aswell, got it finished at this point with radio and glovebox installed. I converted the old radio to an AUX In to use it with my smartphone. Maybe I´m adding bluetooth to it in the future. (I´m doing lots of old radio conversions here in germany )




One last topic on the front end was deleting the hood pin holes from the PO. Welding was no option since the paint would had gone. So I made some cover plates and painted them. Looks not that bad and was an easy fix!


At this point I´m waiting for my wheels to get new tires on and tomorrow I´ll get my rear bumper back from blasting to finish it aswell.

I`M DONE FOLKS

got the last things finished! What I´ve done:

bought some 69 Mustang door speaker grilles to cover the speaker holes in my doors (with new speakers of course). Looks really good I think:



Got my step bumper back and painted it with the black bedliner. Wasn´t sure about a black bumper but it looks perfect:


I also finished the inner side of the tailgate with the black bedliner and mounted it to the truck. I´m so happy with the look of the rear end...love it



Then I had to mount my outside western style mirrors with the really big mirror panels. I like this "big truck" look, but I made them movable without the necessary of any tools to swing them when I have to pass narrow passages.



And here are the final pic´s with new tires and all done:







I´m so happy with it. Even the old paint looks good and we were able to keep it overall. Needs a bit polishing and waxing, but that´s it.
Did some test drives with an AFR meter to get a good start on carb tuning and will do the fine tuning whenever I´m allowed to drive on the road legally

By the end of last week I passed the german road safety inspection "TUEV" and got it registered. Now I´m allowed to drive on the roads legally
I also got the "historic" registration which makes taxes and insurance much cheaper.



Don´t wonder about the license plate sizes...this is just crazy in germany... you have to be lucky to get the small license plates like I got on the rear. For the front they refused the small plate on the registration agency. Don´t ask why, there is no rational reason for this..

Anyway, I´m now ready for cruisin and waiting for the weather getting better and chasing after noises which will appear on the first longer drives
