Who’s got a suggestion for what I could use to replace the soft pads that were glued to the heater flaps?
When my heater core blew out a few years ago and I had to replace, I cleaned up the entire box. Those soft pads pretty much just brushed off of the flaps - they looked like some kind of thin foam..
Now I have pretty considerable air leakage past the flaps when theyre closed. Too hot!
Whatever goes back on has to be able to hold up to the heat.

Re: The heater-duct- flappers
Factory heater replacement foam kits should still be available from LMC or DC. However, when I rebuilt my factory A/C, foam kits were not available for it. I used Armaflex adhesive backed strip from Home Depot. It's in the HVAC section. Heat and moisture resistant and soft enough to make a good seal. You can see it applied half way down page 3 and on page 4 on my A/C rebuild thread. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 3&start=30 Here it is on the HD website. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Armacell-2- ... /100539553

Armaflex. Check.
Writing it down in my Ford folder til I can get to this project. Wonder if I’ll have to disassemble alot.

Re: The heater-duct- flappers
You have to take the back metal plate off to get to the flappers, which requires removing the rivets that hold the front "plastic" and the back metal piece together. I did a complete rebuild on mine using the Dennis Carpenter rebuild kit, in my opinion you might as well do it all right all at once. I used small machine screws and nuts to replace the rivets. Here is Randy's excellent thread on rebuilding the heater box, and the link to the DC rebuild kit:

Re: The heater-duct- flappers
Thanks for the help.
I should have done the full rebuild when I had it out for the heater core.
