Shorten flareside box

Has anyone shortened a flareside box? Is he 6 foot flareside box narrower than the 8foot box?

Here is some info on the flareside boxes, the first one is from the factory library, and the 2nd is from the 1970 body builders info.

If you're worried about the "correct police".
otherwise with some careful measuring , cutting and welding it is doable to shorten it.
you can also buy" new" repo bed parts.
