Hello. New guy here. I picked up a 1972 f100 4x4 with no keys. I was curious if the ignition had a key lockout for the steering. Meaning when key is out the steering is locked. The steering wheel moves freely with no keys in it.
Thank you!

Re: Steering lockout?
There is no key lockout on the steering, these trucks are pretty simple compared to todays vehicles. The steering wheel should be able to move the tires with no key. You can remove the entire ignition switch on the truck by unplugging the wire harness in the back, and unscrewing the ring on the outside of the switch on your dash. I always make sure I disconnect my battery ground wire before messing with my electrical system. If you have a competent locksmith in your town, they might be able to make you a key for it, if you take the switch into them. The door keys and ignition keys were originally keyed the same. The ignition key should be able to unlock your door locks as well, unless they were changed over the years. They do have new ignition and door lock kits available if you want them to use the same key. Let us know how things go, or you have any additional issues.

Thank you for the info! Good on one hand, bad on the other. I have a tow dolly so I don't think that will work. Lol.
