Unknown wire
Can anyone identify this wire. It was hanging in the undercarriage just behind engine and where transmission mates

Re: Unknown wire
Not sure how they hooked them up on the manuals but i would think maybe it's for the backup or reverse lights.

Re: Unknown wire
Given the location, it could be for the reverse light switch on the transmission, but the connector doesn't look right for that. More likely it's a wire to the fuel tank sending unit for an auxiliary fuel tank. Connector looks like it's made to fit over the screw-type terminal found on sending units. Although, it doesn't look quite long enough, and the wire gauge looks to be too thick for that too.

Re: Unknown wire
Can you see any identifying numbers embossed on the rubber boot? Pretty common.

Re: Unknown wire
Found this in the ford parts manual. Where should this wire go?

Re: Unknown wire
Your truck obviously came with Ford's TRS (Transmission Regulated Spark) system, which was an early emission-control set-up. The wire goes to an electrical pressure switch on the side of the transmission. You can read about the TRS here in a service handbook:

Re: Unknown wire
The wire 9E724 shows up in the Diagram and Schematics section I, Wiring and Electrical. Click on the section Transmission Regulated Spark Control System, 8 cylinder - 360, 390 engine, 1972 F100 with 3 or 4 speed manual transmission. Not sure if this will help, but give it a try.
