Door glass weatherstriping?

Post by JoshT »

I've got a 70 F-100 body on my 68 F-100. It was in bad need of an anti-rattle kit 20 years ago, being parked and neglected for the last 10 years didn't help. Getting ready to swap my worn out window regulators for hopefully better used units and want to refresh the window weather striping while I have the doors apart.

In my research I've read that there were two different styles of weatherstrip used at the bottom of the window, I believe that this piece is called the belt or scraper IIRC. To paraphrase NumberDummy from a post I found on the other truck site:
67-70
C7TZ-8121452-A = Right Outer & Left Inner
C7TZ-8121453-A = Left Outer & Right Inner

71-72
C7TZ-8121452-A = Left Inner
C7TZ-8121453-A = Right Inner
D1TZ-1021452-A = Left Outer
D1TZ-1021453-A = Right Outer
From what I've read it seems that the D1TZ outer belts are an improved rubber design. It is also my understanding is that doors from 68-72 are interchangeable. So would I be correct in thinking that I could use improved the 71-72 belts on my 70 model doors?

My truck lives outside and in the woods, so I'd much rather order the 71-72 anti-rattle kit with the improved belts if they'll work.

The difference is in the mounting slots cut into the door and the location of the associated clips in the "scrapers". They can be used but you do have to modify the slots in the door. Or so I've read.

I just ran into that exact problem when I replaced the drivers door on mine........71-72 doors have the slots to mount the anti rattlers lower in the channel than the 67-70 doors and of course with my luck I got a 71-72 door....... :cuss: .......... I called Dennis Carpenter and the guy I talked to said to take the mounting clips off the 67-70 ones and glue them on with 3M black weatherstrip adhesive - put them in and raise the window up far enough that you can wedge them in with some kind of shim until they dry.....I used wood shims from Lowe's to hold mine for a couple days and so far so good........

Well I kept getting mixed responses between here and the other site, some of latter even referenced threads here that also had mixed opinions/experiences.

Not worried about quality and longevity, am willing to sacrifice those for price at this stage. Will be replacing again when time for paint in a few years. I found a complete 71-72 door seal set (minus vent seals) on Jegs for less than $60. Wasn't planning to door seals right now, but at that price I will. Might get vent seals while I'm in there, will check their condition this weekend.

At that price, figured it was worth a shot, worse case I'll buy two more felts to replace the rubbers.
