turn signal fun
When I position the lever for the right turn signal, I do not get a flashing light on the instrument panel, nor does the front indicator light flash. The rear indicator light does flash. I can hear the clicker (flasher) switch.
What is the dependency between the front indicator light and the instrument panel light? I know the bulbs are on both instrument panel and front indicator are good.

I'm not sure what the wiring schematic says , but on my plow truck ("77)
it depends on where I wiggle the switch to make the front signals flash.
My truck was neglected for a time and I think the contacts are dirty.
It seems that in the spring everything works ok , but then it sits in the summer and it takes awhile to limber it back up.
You might try removing the steering wheel and spraying electrical cleaner on the turn signal switch.

I would start by checking all grounds for the turn signal system...bad grounds will make weird things happen...

And a good way to do that is to use a long jumper wire from the battery neg,
either as a temporary ground or a good ground for your test light.

If the search for bad grounds leads nowhere, consider the turn signal switch. Many circuits go through them and strange things happen when they go bad.

I have almost the same issue with my 72 f-100 I am trying to locate a turn signal switch no luck so far any ideas where
to find one?

Strange and weird things happen. I replaced the turn signal switch some time ago and now different problems occur. One of which is instrument panel lights are off now. I have no right flicker on instrument panel now but right flicker light is working. The back left ( if you looking at back) doesn’t have flicker light but park and brake seem to be fine.
So this leads to me to the grounding.
Dumb question but where do I find the ground cables is it one common ground for indicators?

The turn signals ground through each individual housing, by the mounting screws. I've had to remove the housing, clean up the surfaces and screws and reinstall. While you're at it, take some steel wool on a screwdriver of popsicle stick and run it around the inside of the bulb socket to clean those. Pay particular attention to the grooves that lock in the bulb.

So the true fix in the end was replacing the turn signal switch (for the second time) and the wiring harness down the steering column. I bought a kit online and the old one was a real Patch Adams number which had clearly got a lot of love in the process of having the column shifter moved together to the floor together with other things like the after market steering wheel. When you see bondo on a steering column - you must know! In the process I ended up cleaning all grounds and checked integrity of all the wires leading to the lamps. Together with turn signal cam canceller - we having functioning systems.

Each lamp has a ground wire usually screwed to nearby sheet metal .Redcrew71 wrote:where are the main grounds for this?
Rust and paint can interfere , electricity is like water , it takes the path of least resistance.
When in doubt run a good ground to the frame , then run another ground from the battery to the frame for taillights .
run a good ground to the rad support for the front lights.
When testing I use a long clip on jumper wire to the battery ground for my test light.
Old corroded light sockets can cause a lot of problems also.
