Bed choices

Post by Busboy »

Silly question but here goes: I bought a 67 f-100 4x4 with no bed on it. It spent it's entire life on a cattle ranch in Oregon with a feeder thing on it. The bed was removed literally decades ago. I think it might have originally had a styleside longbed on it. Will a stepside bed go on without modifications to the frame etc?

A '72 and earlier bed will bolt on. In '73 the frame got wider and the wheel base grew a couple of inches so you would have to do some fab work, but it can be done.

I can't say from personal experience but from looking at the frame drawings and dimensions for 4x2 and 4x4 here http://www.fordification.com/tech/bodybuilder70.htm everything looks to be the same where the bed bolts on. I would say that as long you find a LWB bed to match you LWB frame, it should be fine.

:2cents: from experience..( never mind it's an 67) but, for whom it may help...they started the Flex-o-Matic option in 70,meaning there's a notch in the cross member of the bed for the extra height of the back bracket and need to be considered or addressed when replacing a bed
I've had enough and I'm not alone
