'70 grill on a '69 ???

Post by GonzoTx »

Hey guys, just wondering, is it possible to bolt a '70 model grill on a '69 f 100 ? The headlight bezels are trashed and don't fit , plus I just think the '70 looks better. The grill is in good shape, I just really don't like the look. My partner have kicked around building a custom tube grill, but that still leaves me with the trashed bezels ($200+) any ideas ????
Thanx !

Its as I understand it very easily done. However you will also need I think to come up with the filler panel above the bumper. As my old memory recalls that is where the difference in fit shows up the most. I also seem to recall that the turn signal lights are a different size.

:yt: Charlie's right about that. The '69 had the turn signals incorporated into the grill itself while, beginning with 1970 they took them out of the grill and made them a bolt on to the lower valance. This affected the lower valance in the process http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htm and http://www.fordification.com/tech/trim.htm

The lower valance is commonly referred to as a gravel shield. The 67-69 shield is shaped differently from the 70-72 for the reason as stated above. Aftermarket Repro gravel shields are like $150 or more. Repro (shiny) headlight doors are $100 each. Yowza.

...Today I scored a straight metal grill shell with headlight doors, headlight buckets, upper filler panel, and turn signal housings + lenses. All that for a paltry $18!!! One door has a shallow dent that I can hammer and dolly. I spent some extra time replacing the plastic screw inserts and installing usable screws.. sa-weeeeet.
