Replacement Body Parts

Post by Wilfred of Ivanhoe »

So I am considering buying some replacement and patch sections for my other truck build/rebuild (71 4x4). I could repair all the rust and dings from over the years, but right now I am so far behind on so many projects, and my time is pretty limited. The truck will not be a work truck, but it will be a daily driver. I am wanting to restore it to the point that it is "new" again, so I will want it to look good as well as last for many many years.

Thus, I am considering purchasing some of the effected sections to save time. Has anyone else on here purchased any of said replacement body parts from LMC, etc.? Are they of good quality steel? Do the body lines match up? I am interested in any success or horror stories, pics, :2cents: , or whatever. If you have used fiberglass body parts, I am interested in hearing about that too. Thanks in advance guys!

Floors, crossmembers, rockers, etc are a pretty safe bet from any of the regular vendors like LMC, Macs, NPD, etc. For cab mounts don't waste your money on the one piece stamped jobs, use only Dennis Carpenter cab mounts and cab corners. Cost a little more up front but the durability and fit are well worth the extra money. Body parts like fenders, you're better off trying to find some from a salvage yard or fix your old one's. My experience with aftermarket floors is that they are a hair thinner than the originals.

I purchased a Center Cab Brace from Flashback100's about 3 months ago. They are not the cheapest vendor but their quality is incredible. All their pieces are made in the USA with American Steel. The cab brace was actually a thicker gauge than the original, fit like a dream.
Great customer service, very old school.
They have a decent website but if you call them up they have much much more than what they list. Highly recommended.

I bought two front fenders off eBay from fulfillment warehouse. They came in flat black primer inside and out and they were galvanized steel. I waited till they went on sale for like 130 each and they fit with no issues. I did fit them up to aftermarket galvanized inner fenders as well and an aftermarket radiator support and everything did fit good. A little pushing and pulling by hand to align everything but they all worked fine. The fenders did not come with holes for the side ranger trim. They were not as thick of gauge as original fenders but good quality nonetheless
