Painting the truck tomorrow, have a questiom

Post by windhamdw »

What does everyone use to wipe down the truck with before painting it to make sure it's all clean. So far I have washed it and wiped it down with lacquer thinner.

Thanks

Lacquer thinner leaves a film but the film can be removed with denatured alcohol. Use them both.

Wax and grease remover is best IMO.

Lacquer thinner is a little harsh, a good wax and grease remover is best.
Windex will work if it's all you have.
use good clean paper towels ,wipe it on a small area ,then wipe it off when it's still wet with a dry paper towel.

It's probably too late for this paint job but I've always used a product called final klean. Available at automotive paint supply stores.

Also wipe the truck with a tack rag to remove any dust or small rash that will show up in the paint.

Careful with the lacquer thinner, depending on what primer or sealer you used, it could soften it and will leave fisheyes. I use reducer to wipe down then two tack cloths.
