Original wheel color

Post by 19ford71 »

I'm getting ready to sandblast and paint my wheels on my 1969 F100. Does anyone know the what rattlecan color I can buy off the shelf that most closely matches the original wheel color?

If I recall correctly some wheels were painted a shade of white and some were painted a shade of black. Possibly other colors as well My guess is that the correct wheel color is best determined by the trim package your truck was built with.

They are going to be a shade of white. I'm curious if anyone has found a rustoleum, krylon etc shade that closely matches the original white. It appears to maybe be an off-white? Also, how can I figure out what trim package the truck has?

The color was Wimbledon white (at least that is what I came up with). Chrysler had another name for it. I had shop that caters to car repair shops mix up a pint of it and then they made some rattle can paint from it. About $40, I think. I used a place called English Paint and Color or something similar. They have lots of stores around the country.

Check with NPD. They have rattle cans of all of the original colors and they are a very good match. I think they are about $7 per can

I'm not sure which companies paint card I saw it on, but I have seen one that says all wheels, bumpers and grills were Wimbledon White, even if the body was another color white.

You should be able to buy Wimbledon White in spray cans at most decent auto stores.

I just did mine. Krylon fusion gloss white is as close as anything.
