Its a sad way for an old man to go... IMO he was likely suffering from dementia, or something similar.

That said, if someone shoots at me I would feel I did the right thing by firing back. The age of the shooter does not slow down a bullet. Look out for #1.

Im normally one to oppose the police until Ive heard (read) something about the incident that you just cant argue with, in this case, a guy with a gun was shooting at them...

Once again, this is a sad story to hear (read). Im sure there are plenty of emotions running wild on both sides of this ordeal.

I would have liked to hear him tell about World War I and II.
He could have told about how it was to actually live through them and The Hoover Days.
It is sad that it ended like this.

My mom is 94 and she warns me to not come in the house without knocking first. She has a handgun and a 22 rifle, I got her shotgun away from her, but she wants it back. Years ago she had her 30-06 leveled on my dad as he tried to climb through the wood box instead knocking on the door and letting her know he was back from a trip to Alaska. She is still of relatively sound mind, but her memory is getting worse. Would she shoot an intruder? Yes, and she definitely knows how to use a firearm. After this news report I am going to watch her even closer and get the rest of the firearms out of her house before she gets to where she can't recognize the good guys. We usually worry about our parents driving when they get older, but with my mom the firearms are a bigger concern. This news report is a wake up call for those of us with parents with firearms.....
