You probably have already read it but here is the tutorial from this site and it has a discussion of the engine perch issue. It might not answer your exact question though.

re: engine perch
The main thing to look for is a 2WD '68-'79 truck with either an I-6 or a 360/390 with a Saginaw power steering box. Just swipe the left perch from that truck. Or you can just notch the one you have for clearance.

re: engine perch
That's the driver's-side perch on my parts truck...sorry, it's a little greasy. The dark glob in the upper section is the Saginaw box, and you can see how the perch was trimmed to fit around the box.

re: engine perch
this is where i found when going from fe to sb stands the holes on the top frame of my truck where staggered . I set it up on the right side squared to the front cradle cross memeber and the exhaust manifold nor the header would clear the p/s box. When I used the ones on the left and squared up the exhaust fit like it belonged there.
I'm not sure if the scenario is the same if changing from sb to fe stands but could be food for thought

re: engine perch
I have a better camera now, I'll get a better picture of that this weekend. But in the meantime...here's a shot from a slightly different angle. Between the two you should be able to make it out.
