Highboy?s

Post by Zukinut »

Ok, I'm about to ask the dumbest question ever. Especially since I was born and raised a ford guy. have owned several 67-76 ford trucks and broncos and I work on 4wds for a living.

But what exactly makes a hiboy a hiboy. I know they are taller but,was it just a term given to trucks of that era? Or is it a suspension thing or ?

Please don't flame me to much.

Thanks in advance

For what I have read here, a highboy is an aftermarket term that refers to a 67-77 F250 4x4 that have the divorced transfer case. It has no real meaning and does not mean that they were lifted from the factory or whatever. It only applies to the F250, not the F100.

That is the correct answer and to expand on it, the 77 1/2-79 are usually called Lowboys. The earlier F250's used s specific chassis design with a relatively straight and narrow ladder frame while the later trucks used a more modern step down wider frame design. The trucks really are not too much different in actual height but the chassis design is dramatically different. If you park a 77 Highboy next to a 77 1/2 Lowboy there is a differeance but depending on GVWR options it may not be much. A 6750 GVWR Highboy parked next to a 8400 GVWR Lowboy is hard to differentiate which is which in profile! Hawkrod
