4x4 front axle

Post by bbktexas »

Can anyone help me identify this front axle? I believe it came out of a Bronco. Where do I look for part numbers?

Can't tell if it's high or low pinion from the angle of the picture, but it's definitely from a coil spring application. Someone cut off all the factory mounting brackets and welded new stuff on and swapped on 8 lug Ford brakes and hubs. The tie rod is from an F-150 or bronco.

If it's low pinion and pretty narrow the housing is from an early bronco. If it's high pinion it's from an F-150 or 78-79 bronco.

Thanks for the info Dustin. I will try to get better pictures and look closer for Ford numbers but you helped narrow my search.

Should be a tag screwed down by one of the cover bolts with the info on the rear.

there is also a 'Bill of Materials' (BOM) number stamped into the front of one of the axle tubes. That number will tell you original application and build info.

Thanks for the ideas. I could not find a tag or number on the axle housing. I found a number on the knuckle attached to the housing, A3R34. The calipers are Dayton 69710382. The whole unit came from a Bronco but I don't know if that was the original unit. I will attach another picture or two. I am trying to figure out if I should pull the calipers and hubs and scrap the housing or if someone may need this part for their project.
