t case question.

Post by 1967mercury »

i picked up a junkyard t-case today, but to my dissapointment turned out to be a NP207. i was wondering if it would work to convert my M-100 to a 4x4? or is it to light duty? is would be going behind a 240/3-spd so deffinatly not a powerhouse...haha

if it is good enough i would get an adapter made to make it divorced, and then SAS the front end with a dana 60.

Not to rain on your parade but anything can be done. This is my opinion of what you have. I wouldn't run the 207. I personally don't have experience with them. I am pretty sure it is a less popular swap.I know it would be alot of work for you to put in that transfercase and then be disapointed in. There is alot of work invovled in converting a 2wd truck to 4x4. The way most people go (and I do agree with it) is to swap the body you have or like onto a 4x4 chassis from the 67-72 era. From what I here the 3 speed isn't know for its strength. I think you would be alot happier with the final result doing a frame swap. These are my opinions and not neseccarily fact. Either way you go, best of luck.

the thing is that the truck is a mercury truck and i want to keep it as orignal as possible..haha exept for 4x4 of course ;)

the trans will probably change to a 4 spd and the motor will probably change to a 300. but nothing more then that.
if the t case is good enough, i would make it divorced.

the the alternative is you guys tell me to grow a pair and go BUY a NP205, haha

I wouldn't cut up your original Mercury truck. Just buy another truck, that's 4x4. By the time you buy springs, metal, u bolts, brake lines, steering, and a transfer case, you could find a 4x4 for that. I paid 1500 for my Highboy.
I build driveshafts.
