That tray looks awesome! You should get some rubber matting to go over it so you don't scratch it

I'm curious about the factory mounts. My "factory" bed mounts are two timbers cut to fit the contour of the frame rails U-bolted to the frame.basketcase0302 wrote: I've been working on getting the bed mounted, (I had insisted the design be followed using my drawing for the bed mounts). This will enable using the factory cab/chassis mounts rather than use a flat plate mounting method which most flat beds are using now. I'll try to have more pictures by the weekend hopefully!
I look forward to pictures.
The value of your truck vs bed comment was all in fun.

I stand corrected! I should have stated the "original" cab-chassis mounts on my truck. I realize your truck would be "factory" with the "Ford script bed" on it.FLATBEDFORD on Wed Jul 07, 2010 8:46 am

GREAT build! Just snipped through all the pics you had on Photobucket. Ford a low budget build i think its turning out awesome. If I can get my hands on the 1970 SportCustom im trying to get it will be a budget build. I know im coming in ver late on the threat but I wanted to say GREAT job and you are going to have a VERY nice truck.

I'm several weeks behind working on the truck as well as uploading more pictures. Hopefully later this weekend I'd be able to give another status update. Working on the front brakes this week.

I'm on the brakes now and like everything on the truck...they're kicking mu butt!
Still no time to concentrate on the astethics of BC # 16 like the grill or the paint.
I am also working on another aspect of BC # 16's "diet" though, more to come soon.

Re: Project Basketcase#16 the "little 302" is alive!
Well guys kind of an update-with no pictures.
I'm gonna have hours worth of pictures to upload if i can get around to it soon.
Got the front brakes back together, (had to replace both wheel cylinders and new shoes/they were down to the rivets). It still has the original FOMOCO brake drums on the front, (and they got some engine enamel after I got it all cleaned up). The front also no longer has the old/dangerous split rims on it, more to come on that...
I've gotten most of the LED lighting mounted on the new bed this week. And started on the rear brakes, (the DS rear pads were literally in pieces when I pulled the drum off earlier tonight)!
And I don't think there had been any new grease to the rear bearing in about 20 years or so!

Glad that you're still making progress Jeff! Sounds like your bump was maintained about as well as mine was before I got it . Can't wait to see the pics when you get a chance to post 'em.

Man...that's hard on this ol' man!Thunderfoot on Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:32 am
Ok here's a few...
Been working on the brakes, (they've been needing that since I've owned the truck)!
The front wheels both had to have new wheel cylinders, (Napa brand-made in chiiina)!
But the new front shoes I put on her I'm very proud of, (NPD/Wagner shoes 12" X 3").
I was lucky that all the front hardware just need some wire brushing and in good shape. The hubs got the right angle wire brush, (a few more thousand piercings for me) and primer and rattle can gloss black!
Here what I started with on the front, (a lot different than all the 1/2 ton stuff I've worked on for years):
And here's what the PS front wheel looks like finished:
Here's one of the DS front wheel after the chemical cleaning-before disassembly and wire brushing:
And here what the before and after of the drums looked like when compared:
I was so...close to the king pins(which I've had the kits for a few years now)!
But I do have other plans for the front end still, so I really didn't want to put the money into the front right now...
And I also found these sitting on the side of the road a few weeks ago!
They are true Alcoa's that came from an 86' F-350 dually. They were in pretty pathetic shape when I brought them home with remnants of leaking brake fluid and 20 or so years worth of brake dust on them!
Here's what the one front wheel looked like:
And here's what the front wheels look like after my son Zach spending about 8 hours on each wheel! Started with a stiff wire wheel/then finer wire wheel/then 100 grit sandpaper/then 200 grit sand paper/then trucker's rouge and a buffing wheel/and finished off with neverdull. Getting the clearcoat off for this kind of shine was by far the hardest part.
Here's the DS wheel mounted:
And the PS wheel mounted:
No center caps for now... And my TrailMark 16/225 load range E tires for now. They came with a nice set of 16/235 load range E mud & snow type tires that I'll keep just in case it snow here in Florida.
No joke, we had sleet here where I live last year! I just might need those snow tires!
And I've got the DS rear of the D-70 tore apart for the brakes and wheel bearing service there:
Here's what the DS rear pads looked like, and accident waiting to happen!
Pretty much down to the rivets, and literally crumbled into pieces when i pulled the drum off!
Gotta' go get some sleep, almost "time to make the donuts".
Been another couple of good bump weeks for me, couldn't do it without my son Zach either!
