Looks like you have a nice truck there even if it's not original. I wouldn't want to drive one of these trucks all original, there are lots of tasteful upgrades you can do to them that make them nicer to drive, disc brakes are a good one.

Averagef250, what makes you say the front end is from a 76-77.5 F250? Is it the number of springs in the spring pack? If so, isn't it possible that the original springs were re-installed on a later model front end like a 78 or 79? Not calling you out, It looks like you've been spot on so far and seem to know your stuff. I was just wondering on the front end thing for my own knowledge (or lack thereof).

76-77.5 are the only dana 44 axles with disc brakes that bolt in to our trucks. The original axles, dana 44's w/ closed knuckles and drum brakes.

Nice looking truck, keep using this site and you'll figure out what you have.

Is this stock? I'm a tad confused , my truck used to have one but it was removed before I got it. Was it like a dealer add-on or is it a 2 wheel drive body? Also I have a manual valve on the floor on the driver's side.

The F250 4x4's were fairly limited with options from 67-72. There were two engine options only the 300 six or the 360 V8. The NP435 4 speed and D24 transfer case were the only options, though very few 300 six/auto trucks were reportedly made in the later years. There were the normal trim options available, but no PS or PB until 72. AC was probably available, but I haven't seen one I could be sure was factory. You had a choice of 4.10 or 4.56 gears, limited slip differentials, detroit lockers, and the biggest difference of all- The GVW package. The standard GVW truck was around 6800? I believe and had 5 leaf front springs without rear overload springs or brackets for the springs on the frame rails and a smaller hub Dana 44 front axle. The heavy GVW truck had a door tag GVW of 7700 pounds, had 6 leaf pack front springs, riveted on overload brackets on the frame and overload springs on top of the standard leaf pack.

chase man: it has probably been swapped also.

dustin that is an interestign question that was aksed. and i believe your facts. but what i dont understand is how can you tell from the picture and his description that he has that frotn axle? i have no way of telling myself. all i see is 8 wheel lugs. thats all i can see. what gives you the hint that his front axle was swapped. how could i tell by looking at any truck myself. without knowing or remembering those facts?

He can't tell by the picture. He can tell by his description of the truck having "front disc brakes." No 67-72 4x4 was offered with the disc nor could the be added, therefore Dustin knows it has to be the 76-77.5 axel when the option was available.

It was the picture and description. He said it had discs and the picture shows the big external spicer style hubs. Only 76-77.5 F-250 4x4's had a 44 front with discs and those hubs. The 78-79 F-250 Dana 44 was HP and had the smaller style internal lockouts.
