Lookin good and nice to see another crew getting torn down and redone like I did mine. Takes alot of patience but the reward is unbelivable. Hats off to ya Crappy part is I looked over a few things and now I'm actually starting over with a 68 cab and have to find another 6ft box. So from the ground up again for me.

Been watching all along Mark ,looks like that paint job has turned into a new truck!
So from the last pic of the cab I'm guessing the frame is done and the cab is back on?

I have an 8' bed on a '70 sport custom that I was wanting to trade for a shorter 6' bed for my '70 Crewcab, however, I was out taking measurements tonight and this long bed I have is almost perfect so I got to thinking. Our short beds are in HIGH demand and it is next to impossible to get anyone to turn loose of one sooooo.
I am considering cutting down this longer bed to just a little over 6'. If my measurements are close to accurate, the longer bed will set back approximately 3 3/4" if I center the wheel on the longer bed, which only makes sense. I don't figure that little bit of length will hurt much. I will have to extend the wiring, which is no big deal at all, and the bumper rails. I have never attempted anything like this, but I think I am going to with this one. I have the bed and nothing really to lose. I will have to cut the toolbox down on the other side, but it will definitely be unique! I still need to find out how to resize .jpgs. I have a jillion pics and the cab is same as ready to come off. All I have in the way is the Brake pedal and clutch pedal rod. I do have one question and it is a simple one. How the heck do I get the knobs off the light switch and other switches? I forgot!!!

Mercman my frame is what I call done or maybe good enough. Its nothing like Keiths I didn't quite go that far. I just cleaned and painted it using a Catapillar tractor equipment black paint. I did not remove the axles or transfer case just the body,engine and trans, brake and fuel lines and the wiring. It looks pretty good and touching it up (if and when needed) should be very easy. The cab is just sitting on the mounts for now. I want to drop the engine and trans back in the frame before I put the cab bolts back in. It shouldn't be long as the trans is done and just waiting on the engine, should be back in a couple weeks? I hope
After a little paint in the door jambs and the back of the cab complete assembly will resume thus making the truck done under and in between and only lacking the outside paint job.
Fordfool I thought the length differences between short and long boxes were only different ahead of the wheels?

Sounds like shes coming along good mark Looking on my truck and I could be wrong but just under the inside of the front lower lip of the nose in 2 places (one almost at either end of the hood) it looks like this is where the hood was hung during the factory paint job ,sort of a box type tab slot where hooks could go in ,mine seems a bit shy of paint in this area (in the tabs ) .
This could be a good area to hang the hood and paint it in one shot (both sides ) if you could rig something up.

I had a little trouble hanging the r.h. rear door. Two of the mounted nuts inside the pillar decided to break off and fall inside. Almost impossible to hang the door with 1 bolt on top and 1 bolt on the bottom missing. Can get a nut on the back with my fingers but can hold it and can no way get a wrench in there. ------ So I cut out a panel of the metal on the inside pillar to access the hinges This was great to fix the hinges and turns out this may be even a better place to put my stereo speakers. It looks like a 4X10 speaker may fit in the hole between the rear door hinges. So the next trip over I will be working on this and if its a go I guess I will cut the other side to match.

Sounds like you've made the best out of a bad situation.
I had the bottom nut on each inner fender bracket brak loos inside the cowl, so the nut and bolt just spun together. Had to use a grinder on the bolt head to get the brackets off. There is no way to get behind the cowl, so i haven't quite decided what to do. Maybe install the top bolts and weld the bottom.......

flyboy...you can get to those caged nuts by removing the driver's-side vent. I had one of those break off too, and just replaced it with a bolt and nut.

That's really looking great, Mark! You're doing a fantastic job. So I'm assuming it's a 390? Anything extra inside or a stock rebuild?
