I've got VIN Envy

Ha! At least I got you to read this...

I just bought a 67 F100 and it has no VIN plate. After learning about VIN plates on this great site...I want one! I've got VIN envy (now you've heard it all).

Anything I can do other than go to a trophy store and have one made?

Buy a truck with a VIN tag already attached

I wonder if anyone sells blank VIN tags for our Fords?

I know they do for GPW, MB and some of the other order jeeps.

Ask them for a vehicle Build sheet give them your Vin number. Should start out for example if an f100 2 wheel drive it would start out f10Ykn60109 Wich would decode as F100 4x2 styleside 360 2V V8 Kansas city serial number in this example it is N60,109. they will take your info and take just about a month and. Then you will know what it is and what it has or had installed at factory.

find all of your info from the sheet that Ford sends you. And go to www.martiauto.com and click on the link to tags and data plates and e-mail them your info. they will get back to you.

Even if there is no VIN tag on the door, there are two places where the VIN is stamped on the passenger-side frame rail. One's easy to see, the other is more difficult. Go to the following link for a pic of where to look. With that VIN number, you can then get a replacement tag.

Great link. It has been bookmarked.
Somebody replaced the drivers door with a different one and didn't switch the tags.
Gonna have to fix that one of these days.......

Ford emailed me back and said:

"Unfortunately, duplicate VIN plates are not available as it is only a
part of the original equipment for a vehicle. However, we may be able
to provide you with a VIN decode letter for your reference. In order to
do so, please provide the Door Tag Codes found on the inner door jamb
of your vehicle."

Say what? Isn't that a catch 22? I gave them the VIN #? What else do they need? I can't find any numbers on the door jamb.

Any ideas?

I plan on using Marti Auto works to make me a new plate once I get the info.

There are no "vin Plates" in these old truck, atleast not what ford considers a plate. They think you mean that little metal strip in the window of most cars. send them an email back and let them know you need the door tag

actualy give them the vin # and ask trhem for a build sheet. or give me the number and i'll tell them what you want to know for you. and then when it arrives here i'll mail it to you and then you can call martiauto.com
