re: 69 F100 Ranger project-update 2/2/08
Looking good Ryan. To add to what Nausea said about lifting the cab you might want to get a couple more guys to help. The after effects of 2 man cab swaps don't show up until you hit your mid 40's and have trouble standing up straight.

I wish I could make that kind of progress.
I can't believe some old fart would leave a note on a vehicle that you are CLEARLY working on. He ought to come over and help you. HE might learn something.
Stay at it man!!!!

yeah, i had the 71's fenders, bumper and lower valence off(thats all i had off), and i find a note on the windsheild that stated my vehicle must be re-assembled within the small amount of time they gave me. and i know who put it there since i live in a court(only people in the court can see my truck) and everyone but this guy has complimented on my truck's progress. and this guy that put it there thinks he is the captain of the court. VERY annoying.
there will be a pretty nice update this weekend of lots of progress in the cab...
stay tuned

UPDATE:
i got lots done on my 3day weekend
i got the gas tank out of the cab, the cluster out, the heater/ac out, and a bunch of other stuff. i also got random engine brackets painted as well as the fan. i probably did alot more stuff, i just cant remember where i left off on the last update.
the parking brake cable was hard, this is how i got the clip off:
i got my new drivers door completely bare of parts, this surface rust inside will be sanded and have a nice coat of POR-15
BIG tank:
its like theres still an emblem
the back FORD thing only took about 1 HOUR! and i broke two of my dads drill bits
its getting a little full in here...
so one of these weekdays or this weekend, were going to use the 71' to tow the 69 with tow straps 1/2 mile down to the welding shop. im going to have aftermarket radio mount holes welded, the brackets in the bed cut off, the hook in the bed cut off, 4 holes that were torched in the bed welded up.
when the truck is there i will also borrow his engine puller and once the trucks are back home, i will pull the 69's engine. then ill por-15 the frame and begine all body work and so on.

thanks!
i cant wait to start body work!!! however im sure ill be tired of it after a week of it or so
and im also running tight on money for my project... 3 paper routes just aint cutting it i really need to save up my money for body/paint equipment... i only have ~250 now. im going to need more like ~1250. i can do this in steps though. first ill get the sanding supplies i need and some bondo, and since sanding and all will take a LONG time, im sure ill have enough money for a nice paint gun/water traps/ paint/ hardener etc. by the time im done sanding.
it should work out quite nicely actually.
also im going to try to keep working at the welding shop after the truck is paid off.

Start watching eBay, I got one of these for $67, sears online wanted $120. You'll need one to get the body flat, especially that buggered section of bump.
That and a decent DA sander will get 90% of the bodywork done.

yeah i have a decent da sander for my compressor allready bot not a inline air sander yet.
do you guys think a inline air sander like the one in the ebay auction will be too much work for my 26 gallon 8.1 cfm craftsman compressor?
i dont want to kill it.
soon i plan on going to the paint store and getting a inline sander(if it doesnt kill my compressor) and a bunch of different sanding grits and blocks. should i also get primer to shoot the metal once its sanded down nicely? or can the metal go bare for a while?

UPDATE: didnt get much dont this weekend, since i was rebuilding the fallen fence on saturday, ive been thinking about my defroster idea constantly and their isnt a whole lot to do to the truck at this point. im waiting on the trip down to the welding shop.
but what i did do is get almost the whole wiring harness off the truck, and i polished all the trucks BLING BLING
heres a quick pic:
the chrome and the whole thing looks alot better than before after 2 hours of polishing trim.
i also cleaned out the heater unit, and repainted the back plate gloss black. i think i may sell the heater though, because i might go for a factory ranger heater/ac system for those 115 deg. days here.
i also cleaned alot of the garage
i would of taken lots of before+after pics, but i didnt have the camera all day.
my dad also got me a painting suit and is going to get me a respirator all from work
i got all my sanding supplies together, getting ready for it all.
i cant wait until i start sanding!
