SuperNats 2005 Trophy Nite
Well, this was weird and great. Weird 1st. They weren't passing out as many trophies as they had listed for the 61-66, & 67-72 classes. They list 25 for custom 61-66 and only handed out 17, for 67-72 Stock there were 5 listed, & they only handed out 3. AND GET THIS, One of the Names they called for 67-72 STOCK, WAS MINE!!!. I knew that guy who came by Friday AM didn't have a clue (he asked me what year it was?) but STOCK? and then for Custom 67-72 they were to hand out 15 & only awarded 7, and There were several dozen possibles. A guy from 61-66 Custom asked why they didn't hand out the full number?, and was told that was all there were in the class- which was way wrong, so they gave him one - (he deserved it) of the ones left over. What this means is that there were many (and I Mean there were lots of them) Stock & Custom 67-72 Rangers & others out there who didn't get judged. So anyway when it was over I went up and said they'd given me a Stock Trophy by Mistake it should say Custom and they traded. No Offense to the Stock guys, but what would I have done with a Trophy for a Stock 67-72?
OK now for the Great. Ryan- the kid with the Red 67 from Sun Praire WI who drove down with his family, (him & his Dad use redneckF100 as screen name for this site) got the Brett Ford Incredible Youth Award
and a $500. Gift Certificate from Dennis Carpenter, and then almost at the end, the Georgia LoRiders Truck Club (a great bunch of guys who include Sean Smith who has an incredible green 71 that got TOY last year for our class and was featured in Classic Trucks - it has a pie cut hood) picked Ryan for their Busted Knuckle Award and a $100. check. How Kool Is That?
Those who know Ryans full story were deeply moved, he was almost killed in a wreck as a passenger, but hung in there, and came back to restore the 67 his grandpa bought for him. I met them and sold them some of my old stuff 2 years ago. And can't be happier for them.
So anyway my Trophy doesn't say Stock, and Ryan was the big winner.
The Orange Transformer Truck got the Truckers Choice for TOY. The tasty Silver 56 which was my favorite was a runner up. Hard to compete against a Transformer Truck (a slightly sarcastic nickname people were using because every thing on it tilted one way or the other).
The SuperNats are like a State Fair for Ford Truck Fanatics and like all Fairs by the end of a couple days everyones a little frazzled and ready to get home, and that describes me very well.
It was fun doing reports and pictures, and I met on line friends (Jim-twistedF100), and made & renewed some in person ones (Todd, Sean. Ed), but I'm outahere ...

Thanks Trevor,
That's great about the trophy and Ryan. Have a safe trip home and the updates, pictures, everything was awesome. I'd love to go sometime just for the experience.

from the pics i saw your truck looks like the best one at the show. i think its wierd that there are people there judging trucks and have no idea how much work theres put into them. restoring them is one thing but to build a nice custom truck is whole different story. i have tons of hours just in the custom work i have done to my bed. this weekend i welded up all the body seem lines and i am working a steal cover for the back. your truck is one of the best ones i have seen. maybe i'll get my truck up there one year.

if theres a new way, i'll be the first in line. it better work this time!

Thanks customcrewcab - amazingly there wasn't a single crew cab of our years or any other. I would love to sit next to yours at a show someday, you are doing to yours what I'd love to do to one.
There's a lot of work that goes into this hobby period. Some of the stockers were literally brought back from the scrap heap, and some of us had a head start with a relatively clean driver to customize.
I think the judging fiasco was just a slip up for this year, at least it wasn't that way in 2003. But if things like that continue the credibilty of show will sink faster than a leaky old wooden boat. Well I'm going to unplug the laptop and hit the road for WI.

My son and I was there, and from what we seen you should have gotten tops in custom for the 67-72 class. Wish we could have meet you while we were there, but didn't catch you around your truck. We had it cut our trip short, because they put the wife in the hospital with heart problems. But we are planning to go back next year, my son was there long enough to catch the bug, and wants to take his truck next year.

Sorry to hear about your wife, hope everything is going to be OK. I would like to have met you and your son - glad he got the bug, but it was way too hard to stick around mine when there were so many other trucks to look at, and during middle of day I retreated to the Air Cond. big building, it got plenty hot outside.Randle wrote:Trevor

I may be on the every other year plan, it's a 13 hr. drive from here, but I convoyed with Ryans family and got home OK but my right knee was blown out pretty bad. Thankfully, some Alleve, Motrin and a good nights sleep in my own bed with my wife and I feel fine.

CACWBY,
Awesome pictures. Thanks alot for taking the time to square us away with the stories and the pics. I'm really glad I got to see them and ooh and aahhh over them too.
Someday I'll get up there myself. Luckily i got some family right near there...so I can have a place to hang out and all.
Thanks again.

Case in point, this is what this site is ALL about. People just wanting to make other people happy.
