F-100 vs. F-150

Post by 91Bear »

I read this on the "Did You Know" bar and don't understand it.

What's the story on the emissions control regulations?

In 1975 Ford introduced the F-150 to get around the emission control regulations of the F-100. The F-100 was still produced up through 1983, but dropped for the '84 model year.

It should also be mentioned that the Feds had the course mapped out for several years, gradually upping the GVW. So the manufactures had plenty of time to comply. Up in the mid 80s it was only the 1 ton duallys that could still run leaded but they also had dual air pumps in many cases and a host of other emissions stuff.
Now all that being said, it really annoys me when I see someone selling a 71 F-150 or referring to any pre 75 as an F-150.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.
