This evening we had some odd behavior on the forums, with some posts going missing, folks having problems either logging on or staying logged in, and the problem appears to be with our current server hosts. They've once again started bitchin' about how the site is "utilizing excessive resources" and have moved our site off it's regular production server and onto another server which has been known to cause problems in the past.

Therefore, it's time we finally make the big move from our current hosts to a new online home. I've already got it all set up...with one thing remaining to be done: I need to get a full working forum database backup done. However, the only way I can do this is to temporarily take the forums offline while the backup is being made.

The backup will take about an hour or so, so I'm tentatively planning on doing this backup tomorrow evening after work. Probably around 7PM CST or so, I'll temporarily take the forums offline for an hour or two while I attempt to get the backups made and downloaded. Once the backups are completed, I'll bring the forums back up online. I'll take this database backup and attempt to install it at our new hosts. If the backup is successfully installed at our new home, then I'll begin to make the move. However, the move will probably take a couple days, and after all other site files are moved over, I'll again have to take the forums offline, make another database backup and install that at our new home, and then transfer the 'fordification.com' domain name. Domain name propagation to all the internet's name servers normally takes 24-48 hours, so you will not be able to access the forums for a day or two.

I'll keep you all informed as to the status of the move. In the meantime, if you notice the forums are offline, be sure to check the site's front page (www.fordification.com) for an announcement of what's going on.

i am having withdrawls already. i remeber the last time they kept messing up. i was almost sick because i couldn't be here.

Do what needs to be done. I guess while the site is down I may have to go outside and work on something. This domain change is going to cuase me to get something accomplished, I am writing my congressman LMAO.

Seriously though whatever it takes to keep the site running correctly is fine by me.

Good thing I am on vacation! I guess I will just have to sit out side and look at the mountains...dang

Remember everyone, there is no need to panic!!!!

This is only routine maintenance, kinda like changing the oil in the bump.
You tell yourself everything will be OK, but your heart still doesn't start beating again until the oil pressure gauge needle moves after the first restart.

OK, I've done a backup of the forum database, and am currently attempting an upload of it to our new home server.
