Olde Skool update 5-4-07

It was a great evening to work on the bus…
I ended up with a big mess… stuff strewn about everywhere…
At least now I know that roof is fiberglass insulated… that’s a plus.
I picked up some nice 55watt halogen driving lights that look like they will work nicely. I was trying to figure out how to connect the existing wires to the wires for the new lights… I wanted to mount the new back up lights before installing the rest of the tail-lights… I figured the easiest way would be to run the new wires down to the existing wires rather than try to run the existing wires up since they were too short anyway.
I got my hand in the turn signal light hole and realized there isn’t any way to feed the wire down from the top… hmmm that creates a dilemma.
So I decide to pull the last section of the passenger side wiring channel and have look …
I still couldn’t figure out how to get the wire down to where I could make a connection. I decided that the best way to get where I needed to be would be to pull the back piece of sheet metal.
That was no easy task since it had been brush painted right over the screws…
Armed with a leather mallet, and a number 4 phillips screwdriver I started breaking each screw loose, then I was able to remove the screws with my drill.
When I got all the screws out, I began to remove the back panel piece... then came to the conclusion that it was being held place in by the sheet metal panel just forward of it… so once again I attacked with the mallet and screw driver… and about a half an hour later had the second panel removed, then the rear panel came right out… yes.!!! Now, I can at least see what I can’t do… there’s no way to snake the wires down to the rear opening without removing two more panels that are riveted in…
I decided that there had to be an easier way of skinin’ this cat.
Since the new lights are gonna mount high in the back I can drill holes for the wires to come inside where I now have easy access and run new wires back from the switch in the front panel… I just have to remove two rivets to be able to pull the sheet metal behind the wiring panel out far enough to run the wire. I need to drill a new hole to feed the wires thru ‘cause the new wires won’t fit thru the hole where the main rear wiring harness goes thru. I don’t wanna drill thru the harness, so I have to pull the sheet metal back far enough to move the harness away from where I need to drill my hole…
I did manage to get some painting done during this whole process…
That was right before I was attacked by a mice… I say “a miceâ€Â
