Fixing the free '67 bump

Post by ToughOldFord »

Fixing this thing is an on going saga. Original thread is here:

http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... hp?t=14735

I haven't had much time to work on this lately as I've been replacing the heads on the S-10. (Darn thing rang great, but the smog Nazis said I needed new heads. :x :x :x ) But I'm done with that and have been able to work on the bump some yesterday and today. Yesterday I put a voltage regulator in it, warmed it up and dialed the carb in. Finished hooking the linkage up. Sounded decent, but that exhaust leak sounded bad. Took it on it's maiden voyage, all the way to the end of the street to check the mail, lol. Tires look like they have about 10 or 15lbs air in them and there's no power steering so that was fun. Rear brakes grab too. Backfired through the carb under load, I figured timing was off. Carb should be okay, it came off the '69 when I put the 4bbl in it.
Today I checked the timing, it was set @ 0 degrees TDC. Reset it at 10 degrees. Sounds much better, the exhaust leak is even quieter.
Plug wires have mold on them! Points look fried. Needs a full tune up. FE's are tough as nails, as old and neglected as this thing is it still idles smooth and runs great. (Except the leak of course.)
Replaced the fuse on for the hazard lights and lighter so I have power there now. Just have to remember where I put the new switch. :hmm:
Stock speaker looks like a PITA to get to, I guess it's going to stay right there, I'll put the replacement somewhere else.
Need mirrors! Been backing trailers up for so long I'm darn near helpless without them!

That amazes me that this thing runs, given everything you've listed that was off on it. You have any pictures now that you've given it a front end?

Thanks!

Yep, I'll get some more pictures soon, I was just waiting to get the grill inserts in and a front bumper. I'm probably going to get a replace for the '69 since that bumper isn't all that great and put that one on the '67. 8)

67 had inserts? Did someone put in a 70-72 plastic style insert grill?

Sounds like a steal.

The guy I got the truck from got it for the front end parts. He had a '70 and it looks like he hit a tree or a pole on the r/s. He took the hood, bumper, r/s fender, and grill assembly off of this truck and put it on his '70. The parts off of the '70 he threw in the back of this truck. I was able to straighten out all of the '70 parts except the front bumper and the r/s light bucket and turn signal.
So this truck's a mutt now. 8)

Progress, got the front bumper and grill inserts on. Actually looks like a truck again. Can't put the light bucket in yet, I need the plastic insert that the adjustment screw goes into. I grabbed one out of a '69, but it turns out they used something different in the '70.
If the weather's any good I'll try to pull it out this weekend for some pics.
