Heater core / underdash A/C

Well I finally got the heater core bought and have been cleaning parts and starting to put it all back together. Some may think this does not need to be in the Project section, bet me

. I will get some pics up as towards the end of this week.

Any suggestions on what kind of sealer to use between the 2 halves of the case? It looks like it had some kind of tar on it but not sure.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you get everything hooked up and going. You are putting factory AC in a truck that didn't have it originally....correct? Take lots of pics. This could be a sticky.

Go to your local parts store or automotive paint store and ask for a butyl ribbon in a roll. They make this in differnt sizes. I would think around 1/4 " would be about the right size. You may even have to take small sections of it and roll it down smaller if you have to. Its kind of like rolling clay in cigar shaped rolls. If i remember right i think that you can even get this in a flat ribbon might not be black in color but once its installed your not gonna see it.

Thanks foghorn. Well today I put together the heater core half with the condensor on it. Just to my joy I found that in the past many months of sitting and not being worked on, someone kicked in the fins on the condensor. I got about half of them straightened so far and will continue tomorrow. What a pain in the ...

Isn't there a tool to do that?

For some reason I thought I saw somewhere that you could buy a tool to straighten out the fins on the condensor.

Wonder if a comb would work for that?

There is a tool but if they are bent to bad the tool just rips them up pretty bad. A comb does work if you just have some minor straightening to do. I use to work in the A/C business.

Yes robinair makes a multi size comb to ddo that with but like he said if it they are bent to bad its a PIA to get them back right.

Well I got the fins straightened out as much as I could. Not perfect but it will definitely work.

Also a picture of the new heater core installed.
