big job hood hinges on pickup?

Post by luv4x4dz »

I am thinking of getting hinges from one of the big job trucks and using them on my F250 and getting rid of the rusting inner fenders in favor of making my own like the simis have out of rubber attached with clips for easy removal if needed and just running a piece of 1.5" angle from cab to core support for fender atachment. I was wondering if any of yall have done this sort of thing and if those hinges will work. I know they attach to the firewall at the point where my inner fenders go and I think the truck/bus hood are the same but I dont know for sure. dont worry about my battery... its going to get a custom box made that will bolt to the truck frame unless someone has a better idea.

I don't know...I'm not sure how the F600-type hinges are connected, but it sure seems to me like a lot of work to simply avoid replacing the inner fenderwells. They're really not THAT rare or expensive....I'd think you'd be much happier finding replacements for your rusty pieces. :o

Also,

Hood Hinges are listed in the latest D-C catalog as "Comming Soon".

Of course, XLT horn buttons are listed as here now, and thats another story.

well it was more or less a thought to make it easier to work on the truck and
and get rid of some rusties in the process. since its a 4x4 and Im kinda short
it would be easier to work on if the inner fenders were easily removable.

since I was down messin with the starter and building a shield I was thinkin it
would be sweet to be able to crawl up in the wheelwell outside the frame and
look right at it. it make changeing the starter somday in the future easier too.

what about the newer galvanized innies off a mid70ish? will they fit these ok?

No. They are bout 1/4" too narrow. They won't bolt up properly.

Well, they can be made to work, but it'll take a little modifying here and there. marcveinotte did this swap on his '67 and was detailing his findings here:
