widegauge,
Waas-up!! Good to see you. Hows "more money than brains" coming along?
Sorry we lost touch for a while but you know my house aint moved and your still welcome over anytime. It would be good to see you again.
You also know that if you need any help with your truck all you gotta do is say so.
Give me a call sometime O.K.?

hossw71SportC,
31x10.50 on 15x8" wheels.
Thanks, I like em too. They fit with no mods, no scrubbing and fill up the wheel well nicely.

As you can see, I still have some adjustments to do to the front fenders and maybe some shimming of the core support to get the hood gap to line up better. And the tail gate is pretty much crap. But as with everything else during this project, I gotta use what I got and make the best of what I can.
I think once its all painted the same color it wont be so bad.
Another example is the door panels, the doors are done and painted but the door panels havent been touched. Only re-installed as they were prior to start of this project.
I plan on finishing them later when I get more paint for the bed etc.
The interior is much improved over the old one due to a good dashpad and bench seat. I wanted to dye them green but that will have to come later as well.
The headliner is made of hardboard purchased from Home Depot. Not bad except I wanted to paint it with spatter paint before I installed it. Yet another task for later.

to you shark for showing that it can be done. Even though Ethyl is not finished, what is left to be done can be done while you drive her. When I get the chance, I will use you rebuild as motivation to keep me going. Thanks, John.

Movin on up:
After 10+ months in the back yard. Ethyl finaly takes her rightfull place in the front yard.
Spent the day re-checking and re-tightnening, and re-adjusting everything after a trip to the gas station (full) and few trips around the block.
Everything works. Every bulb, every switch, every accessory. (AC needs charged but I know it works)
Still waiting on tag/insurance, a set of wiper inserts, and to decide which set of mirrors I want to use. (Westcoast or 78 style)
Runs as good as it ever did, And feels good to know there are no missing, rusted, or stripped bolts anywhere on this truck. Ive been thru every inch of the wiring harness. No loose ends, mystery wires or rats nest clumps.
Everything fits, everything is plugged in, and everything works.
Even though the paint job is not completed. She is 100% reliable and ready to go.
Every bit of rust that I could find on this truck has either been eliminated. Cut out. Or at least brought under controll so that it can be finished while driving it.
But I have to admit. I miss my floor shifter.
Maybe Ill put that back in when I put the mirrors on next week end.

Come Febuary next year she gets another gallon of paint. (to finish the paint job/body work) A gallon of Hurciliner for the bed. And what ever else I can afford at the time.
And I owe BIG BIG BIG thanks to everybody here and a few especialy (you know who you are) for the help. Im glad to get this far and still motivated to continue.
What Ive learned so far is invaluable. But even more so is the time Ive had to bond with my kids during this project. (and you guys too)

1972_f100_hammond,
The cherry picker is a standard engine hoist from Harbor Freight. ($150. - 200?)
Its not the hoist so much as its the way you place your chain. But a longer boom on the hoist would have been even better.
Gotta warn ya though. That much mass in the air tends to get tipsy so ya gotta work carefully and keep some counterweight handy for the back of the hoist.
Place two chains criss-crossing the floor board and attatched to the 4 corners of the cab. For the back two use the rear seat mount holes or the seat belt holes. For the front two front ones I just ran the chains thru the front cab mount brackets. Like this:
After you sit it down on the frame though you have to tilt the front of the cab up to pull the chain out.
Yea I been checkin out your thread. Nice project.
Getting a good head start and keeping at it makes you feel reeeeel good when its close to bein done.
