Sandblasting

Post by Ford390pwr »

Ok, now that I have a good sandblaster, see this thread http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =9161#9161 , I have a few questions to ask before I get started on sandblasting my cab.

After I remove all of the paint and debris, what product should I use on the metal? I am looking at Por 15, but I am not sure if this is the way to go on the entire cab. Also, I have seen some discussion of acid etching, but have no clue what it is or if I should do it!

Maybe I can hear some of your tips and tricks, and if possible links to a good forum for Paint prep?

At the body shop I work at, the painters recommend a metal etching primer. There are Epoxy primers that are self etching, but you need to check with your paint jobber. Metal etching is recommended for proper adhesion to the bare metal. Take care.

On a side note. I have heard horror stories on the use of a sandblaster on body panels. I have used them on panels with no adverse affects, but I general stay away from large unsupported areas with no body lines.

localized heat is your enemy here.
