This was discussed when I bought the truck and I already have the
go-ahead to do it. I still need a decent bed...

Hope you find the short-wide bed soon.. California Junk yards I would think would be one of the BEST places to find one.. Cutting one down is more work than a CheXXy, they are all welded together, not bolted, like BrandX

c'mon, man, don't run the fella off. he's doing it right this time around. not only that, but imo, chevies make better hot rod motors for those who are on a tight budget, I mean what other motor can you buy parts for at 7-11!!!! hahaha

i know where theres a couple clean shorts beds in az . one i gave to a buddy about 2 years ago and its just sitting. i guess should have held onto it and made the trailer out of it like i was planing.

I agree, it cost a little over $1200 for my FE build with alum. intake, carb, cam, rods, pistons and the whole shibang. it cost nearly that much for the same shop to build a friend's sb400 back to stock

As far as the whole MOD vs. FE thing-think about taking your truck out for a roadtrip and getting 25 mpg on the freeway and still have the power to honk it around town when you're feeling gitty. I talked to a guy at the Supernationals with a '55 that has a 4.6 DOHC crate motor in it that got just that on the Super Tour. While everyone else with FE's and other older V8's where stopping every 150-200 miles for gas he'd fill up every other time...

Looks like the bed might be a blessing. The whole mod motor thing is really getting me excited. I have been tossing that idea around for a while, but didn't want to get in over my head. If this is the route you decide to take is there anyway you can have or find time to get a list of parts and make a installation maual? Or something as far as wiring and what parts were used for the PCM and so on. This is gonna be great.

I dunno which one of your sponsors, if any, carrys Ford Racing products, but it seems to me the Ford Racing Catalog lists a stand-alone wiring harness for installing a 4.6 in a "Rod" application.

Too bad you couldn't do the whole enchillada and get one of their 5.0 Mod crate motors.. now THAT would be even more awesome

I've been talking with Dennis at Painless about all of this stuff and he says no problem but I haven't pursued it much as of yet, gotta tackle a bunch of other stuff first.
I have also been talking with Ford Racing and about a motor...I'll keep you posted...
